Out on a quiet esst end Of Cleveland
lives a little m.triled woman who will
have a lot to answer for on the last day.
Thla woman has a telephone that la on
a party line. 7'he other "party" on the
line la a bAnrdlhg house where a desen or
more young men take their meals, each
young man having, of course, one or more
golls to fret about. These young men
rsll up from the boarding house while
they're picking their teeth after meals, to
make definite and certain arrangements
for sitting on tha coiy corner that they
have picked out for their. The result I
that when a married woman on ths Una
wants to call up her dressmaker or make
a bridge date, she has to watt for hour
at a lime while the members of the hand
holders' crowd with hearts keeping syn
copated time together, e'en though far
part, ping pong their conversation back
and forth over the wires.
She thought for a time of asking ths
telephone company to put her on another
line. But she thought then of another
way to get possible relief. Now when
ever there Is a conversation going on over
that line she "listens In." The other night
a young man at tha boarding house nod
fled an Esst Cleveland creature that ha
would be out to do a fireside Companion
turn that evening. Then the married
woman In a aoft gurgle vole butted In.
"Why." the says, "you can't go Out
there. Tou told that Lorain avenue girl
you'd be over tonight."
The laat Cleveland party supposed tha
Interruption came from somebody at the
boarding house who knew just what every
boarder had booked for the week.
That's one case that this revengeful
married woman has put on the blink and
will hav to answer for. ,
Then a few days ago this woman heard
two rings for the boarding house. She
answered the phono herself, and a no
body answered at the boarding house shs
4ld ths talking. "Is Mr. Jones there T"
a peart voloe Inquired.
"Why. no," replied th woman with the
Mr, to her name, "he went ovr to To
ledo to be married tonight"
The next day when that supposedly mar-Hed-ln-Toledo
men sought to book a place
on a certain pillow strewn davenport ho
got his.
If that boarding bouse doesn't put In
a private line oon shattered romances
will be lying about the place a thick a
napkin rings -Cleveland Plain Dealer.
