Frsser, a construction engineer em ployed by Post A Maehler, architects of the Kllcka plant, snd somewhat softened by Emll Kllcka, ' president of the Joseph Kllcka company, has to do with the auto mobile, diplomatic negotiations and the al leged passing of money In a down-town saloon, and In substance follows: The blow fell on November 18, tor no apparent reason. The Job seemed "regu lar" and Mr. Kllcka sent Mr. Frsser to Investigate. The latter saw Boyle, who said that the strike hud been called he cause there was a nonunion man working on It. He added, when asked how the matter could be settled, that Kllcka would have to see Madden. Ths following day Kllcka and Frsser waited for some time In ths saloon, until Madden And his motor csr. arrived, after which Madden and Kllcka entered a little private office at the end of the bar. Fraser de clared that Madden had demanded $1,500 aa the price of putting the men back at work, and then Kllcka emerged from the office cursing earnestly and branding the price as an outrage. Kllcka's version was that he told Madden the pries "was a little high." At any rate ths pries was not agreed upon at that time. . Following Fraser and Kllcka. George 8. Andres, a construction engineer, was'plsced on the stand. Ac cording to hla own and. Kllcka's testimony, Kllcka gave him $1,000. with which to settls the strike, Andres hsvlng approached ths former with a statement that It could bs done for that sum. Meanwhile some trouble had brewed between the new man and Madden. "I told him I wanted to set tle ths strike and asked If he would ac cept $500," testified Andres. "He answered 'No,' and then I offered him $760. " 'Nix.' he answered. I asked him if sl.000 would do." "And what did he answer?" " 'Bring up the dough,' so I went to Kllcka, got the check, and got ten $100 bills at ths bank. It was ths night before Madden showed up, and then I offered him the money. 'H'-w am I to know the strike will be called off if I give you the money,' I asked htm. 'Don't worisr ' hs said, snd then I said, 'Here's your'Soney.' He said, 'I never took any moneji .om you,' and I said I kntw hs didn't." Andres smiled ss he described the fares.
