NEW VORK. April fa. Tha overflowing
speculative confidence which made Itself
strongly fet in the tock market yesterday
had sensibly subsided today. The movement
of price wai halting and Irregular and the
demand showed no deposition to follow
various stocks upward. Effort of yester
day' buyers to realise their profits found
so Inconsiderable a demand that pilccs
gave way before the attempt. The cessa-
lon of the Important selling when the de
cline In prices had gone but a little way
led to an inference of a strong undertone
for the market, but this manifestation stop
ped at a negative Impression. The prom-
taklng was conducted with skill and care.
the market being sustained by advance at
new point.
Tne opening stock market today, aitnougn
quite active, moved within a very narrow
range and Was extremely Irregular. Can
adian Pacific advanced 1 and American

Otherwise the changes were limited, to
trivial fraction and the movement showed
no pronounced tendency either way. s j .
The market continued to show hesitation.
some of the Industrials advancing- vigorously,-
while the grain carriers receded.

back to yesterday closing. At 11 o'clock
some of the specialties were advancing,
but the railroads were reactionary. '

The governor Is receiving numerous
complaints of the manner In which affairs
are being conducted at Gregory and Dallas
so far as the new settlers coming to those
places on their way to Tripp county Is con
cerned. The complaints charge that not
only are towns run "wide open," so far ts
saloons and ga-mbllng Is concerned, but
that the games for relieving the new set
tlers of tbelr money are openly winked at
by the authorities. 4 Attorney Goners I Clark

violations ' of law In the past, and th
authorities of Gregory county may find
that he ts taking an active part In their
affairs If th complklnts continue.
