Wheat prices on the Board of Trade broke from U to Vc today, owing to general selling baaed to some extent on unexoectedlv liberal ex- ports ol' wheat laat week from Russls. The market closed at almost the bottom at net losses of H to 24c. The corn market was exceptionally strong, the May end July deliveries advanced to new high records for the aeason. 71'i being the ton point reached for the May option. Oata and . nrovlalons closed steady. Bullish enthusiasm In the wheat market on the wane today and on aeveral occasions It required combined support by bull leaders to check the declining tend ency of prlcea brought about by a general selling movement. . The change in aenti ment was due In aome degree to the heavy movement of wheat from Russia, total axports from that country laat week being li.O64.O08 bushels, compared with only Sid. 000 bushels the corresponding time year ago and to mora favorable reports re. gardlnt the fall sown crop In this country. The market opened weak at declines of H to lVt&c. following a break of pence to i pence at Liverpool, out recovered part of the loaa early In the day owing to good demand by commleaion houses for the September and December deliveries. After rallying to within ao of Saturday's close for July, the market broke aharply again on renewed selling preasure. July aeclintng from eui to. ilis. nuppri by Bun leaders causea a mild recovery but decidedly weak tone sgsln developed letn In the sesaian and all deliveries sold off to new low points for the day. July drop ping back to H.laTt. The close waa weak with July at ll.lS'.CS- May cloaed at tl.27 and SeDtember at 81.07. Substantial advances In corn prices were scored during eerly trading, but owing to the slump In wheat a large part of the gain waa loet. The May delivery art anced to tl'.o and the July to (18c. which la the hlshest orlce recorded so far t hi season for those options. The September oeiivery also rose to a new nign point at '4c. During the day May sold between ?i7 to 71Ve. The market closed firm at net gains of VstJ1 to He with May at Trade in oata waa on a large scale, in vestment demand by out or town sources for the distant deliveries being a feature The market closed about steady with prices a ehade lower to yatyc higher com pared witn saturaay a close. Still the run was about on a par with two weeks ago. and not far from the average. The arrival, a ha been the case tor some little tlm back, consisted very largely of beef steers, although the proportion of feeder was larger than on moat days laai. week. There was also quit a Sprinkling of cows and heifer. Blockers and feeders were th first cattle to sell, buyers of that kind being out In the yards very early In th mornlnt and all of them anxious for fresh supplies The fact that speculators cleaned up ver- thing they had lsst week made them keen buyers tills morning and everything was disposed of In very good season. All de sirable kinds of feeders and stockers com manded fully steady and, In some caaea, strong price. Wht'e there waa nothing very fancy in sight; there waa quite a bunch of rattle good enough to bring 36.26. Common light stockers are a liitls slow, th demand for that kind not being espec cially brisk. I BATTLE OF LEXINGTON IS CELEBRATED IN THE SCHOOLS I.essaas of Patriotism Taaght ta Paplls by Saa of Aaaerlcaa Revolalloa. "Th Battle of Lexington 'and It Le on," was the aubject of an ddr, writ ten by Ralph W. Th esrcle were. held, at U o'clock, th dsy belnr the"1?4th ' anniversary of th flrt conflict in th revotutlorigry war. The story of the battle, Its significance and result was told In brie'f form. The Revolutionary father fought and died for thr personal rights, and to s curo Independence for 11 their deacendants. for all true bbe-ty-lorlng foreigners who have come to this land; but they lived and fought and died In vain -if their type of heroism and devotion to principle died with them. For though the clash of arm. th din of trlfe and th groan of the wounded hav passed away; though only a monu ment or two attest that peaceful Lexington was the scene of what proved. In It ef fect, to be on of the great battles of his tory; though the combatant themselves sre nothing but dust; there abides th Idea for which they fought and riled, and there comes to us, "borne, prl the night wind of the past." a call to. the duty which lie before us; a warning against the perils which threaten society In th'. our ilav, no less grve thsn those which menaced th Revolutionary patriots.
