I have distinctly stated my position on the most important of the present questions before the citizens of Omaha in connection with the City Govern ment. I promise if elected to devote all my time, energy and ability to the end that the City shall be well governed, that its affairs shall be prudently administered, and that the money raised by taxation for city purposes Bhall be wisely and economically expended. I have submitted my platform and my record frankly and I ask your votes at the primary election in the same confidence that I have m the past. Very respectfully, THE PLATFORM: BUSINK89 ADMINISTRATION I will give the business of the city my close personal attention, and the benefit of nine years' service as member of the City Council, President of the City Council, and Mayor of the City, with careful study of municipal problems, gives me an, understanding of the needa of the city that will enable me to carry Into effect many economies not now prac ticed, and at the same time secure for the citizens more efficient service. I will reorganize sev eral of the departments of the city government as they nowi exist, for the purpose of accom plishing these results. , , OCCUPATION TAX I stand Irrevocably pledged to the levying and collecting of an occupation tax from all the public service corporations that use the streets of the city; the said tax to be equiva lent to not less than 5 per cent of the gross earnings of said corporations. STREET RAILWAYS I stand for the enactment of laws to regulate the service of.the street railways; .. to, compel extensions of Its lines when needed; and to regulate the sale of tickets and trans fers; to compel the maintenance of pavements. . GAS LIGHT J stand for. the enactment of an ordinance that will effect a reduction in the cost of gas lighting on the city streets at the expiration of the present contract, so that the city will. . not pay more, than $20 per year per light of 80-candle power; and for such other regulation of - the services, as shall be for the best interest of the city. ' ! ' ELECTRIC LIGHT I stand for the enactment of an ordinance that will effect a reduction in the cost of electric street lighting at the expiration of the present contract to not more than $65 per . year per lamp; with a reservation that will protect the city in event of the purchase of the water works plant and the desirability of the installation of a municipal street lighting plant in connection with the pumping plant. GARBAGE I favor the repeal of the present garbage ordinance and the voiding of the contract in connection therewith, and the enactment of an ordinance and contract that will provide a better means for the collection and disposal of the city refuse and garbage. FRANCHISES I shall Insist on the pursuance of efforts to the end that the rights of the Omaha Elec tric Light and Power company and the Omaha & Council Bluffs Street Railway and Bridge com pany to ocwrpy the streets and alleys of the city and to sell electricity for lighting and power 'purposes shall be fully and exactly determined; and to also determine the duration pi the fran chise of the Omaha ft Council Bluffs Street Railway and Bridge company. STREETS AND ALLEYS I shall see that the streets and alleys are kept clean and in good repair; especially the alleys, that have been ao long neglected. Unless the alleys are kept clean, the streets cannot be, I shall also see that the proper attention a given to the maintenance of all public thoroughfares of the city. ' I propose to stand up for the mortal, intellectual and material welfare of Omaha and to continue to keep faith with the people and make the best effort within my power to decide public questions on .their merit. .
