JOSEPH GETS DRUBBING awsswaw. Omaha Basket Ball Fire Playt - in Rare Oood Form. SPEED AND ACCURACY COMBINED Mlaaoarlans, Badly Oatelasaed la the First Half, Cora Back Strong; In the Hrroad, bat Kever Danaeroas. Omaha High school. 40; St. Joseph High school, 15. With a skill and determination that surely indicates the permanent breaking ot the hoodoo, Omaha High beat the St. Joseph High basket ball five by a decisive score Saturday evening. The game was char acterlied by speedy and sharp play by both teams, which though apparently evenly matched, soon proved to be widely differ ent In several essentials. This victory is held to be a brilliant one for Omiiha, St. Joseph being classed high among the teams of the Missouri valley. . ., The visitors played an up-toiflate and well organized game and often displayed much better form than the locals, yet the latter managed to eventually outplay ' and out score their opponents, to the eminent sat isfaction of several hundred rooters who went wild when the purplo and white cams out ahead. Omaha's superiority In speed, alertness and skill In team work and basket tossing did the business. ' Making more of their opportunities and even piling up points when no opportunity was apparent, the Omaha lads forged ahead after a few min utes of play and at the end of the first half hail a acore of 16 to 8 in their favor. Rallying strongly In the second half, the visitors gathered In sixteen points, all but two of which weie on field goals, but they were far enough behind to allow Omaha quintet to keep In the lead, although the original ratio between the two scores was cut In two. In their ability to come back Strong on a winning opponent, tho Mlssour (ans showed the same characteristic that was a feature of their match Friday night with Lincoln, when they were also beaten. Differences Over Hales. Even with their own coach as referee the St. Joe players lost. Coach Hammett, who held the moat authoritative place hi the match, la undoubtedly an expert baskets ball man, and holds an enviable reputation for his coaching and officiating abilities. However, his proteges received some slight help In last night's contest from him, al though he rendered It unconsciously. The mere fact that he was used to their style of rlay, which differed In many points from that of the locals, . gavs them an ad vantage. His Interpretation of "arms around" was unlike that of the Omahana and they suffered some as a result. The play was more in Omaha's territory than at the other end of the floor, and whenever the ball did escape from the watchful grasp of the forwards of the purple snd white Omaha's guards were generally on hand .to .rescue lt. When they didn't St. Joe sometimes missed fine chance to cop some points. The locals, with Captain Carrier doing the work, greatly excelled the Mlssourlans In throwing goals on fouls, the latter be ing Bhown some neat work In that line. They also had more-than one shot at the basket a couple of times, when cheers from RAILWAY TIME CARD UNION STATION 10JH AND MASON Ualoa Paelne Leave. Arrive. He threw two goals In succession during the first half that were wonders snd kept up his work so well that he scored seven field goals all together. Nagl was not far behind In the number of goals made and style of ply. Carrier also did his usual excellent work In that line. For St. Joseph, Dolan was the goods most of the time, with a strong contingent back of him to make It possible for him to star.
