"Within three days' the city water
ought to be perfectly clear," says Health
CommlsKloner Connell whoae orders to the
officials of the Omaha Water company to
double the supply of alum In the settling
basins has been compiled with.
The company has been using one and
one-half grains of alum to a gallon, but
beginning Friday It will use three and
one-half grains. Thla will clear the water
thoroughly, it Is believed, but two or three
days will be required to make any appreci
able difference In the condition of the
water, as the basins hold a supply suf
ficient for two days' use.
Samples of water were taken Friday from
the Florence and the Burt atreet station
and these will Da analysed to determine
from which source comes the excess of
albuminoid ammonia. If .lt comes from thu
Burt street station .the. heath commis
sioner says he will order the discontinuance
