Price on Board of-Trade.
CHICAGO. March K.-Conslderable de-
inorallzation developed In the wheat mar
ket iHie In tha session today, and price
declined more than lo from the high point
of the day on account of the general liqui
dation. The close was weak,- although
prices were still' a shade to Vlto above the
final quotation of the previous session.
Com. oats and provision also olosed weak.
A sharp rebound from the final weakness
of the previous -nasslon occurred In wheat
price at the opening today. Initial quota
tion showing gains of ,c to fJV. Many
of the smaller trader, who had old short
yesterday were eager bidders for wheat,
when trading began, and, with only mod
etate offering, the market acquired 'addi
tional atrengtli during the first hour.
Toward the middle of the day several of
the leading bulla began to sell freely and
thin started general selling, which re
sulted In a quick .decline. May dropped
from SI.1M to while July sold off
from l.tfia to SU'3. Weakness of coarse
grains tended to aggravate the heaviness
r wfient. The close was weak, with May
at 81.16 and July at 1.04$l.(Kfe.
Corn prices declined about l'eo la the late

out-of-town holders and to considerable
snlllng lut-esure by local speculators. The
close whs nt altnowi the lowest point at net
declines of -nW-lc to HiflflHc, compared with
the previous close. During the day May
mined between tA4tj67e and 67c, and
closed at Wc.
Oats wert firm at the start In sympathy
with wheat and corn, but slumped severely
about midday on selling by cash interest
and lung In general The close was
c lower, with May at Mu and July at 6S',c.
l'tovlslons were firm at the start, owing
to a Gallic advance In live hogs. 1-nte.r the
market cased and closed at net losses of

The United States Steel annual report
was read with earnest attention and de
tailed a allowing of the gross earnings of
the subsidiary companies, which revealed
the extent of the last year's depression In
the Industry much more effectually than
had the summ&rlfied return of not returns
to the holding corporations. The fact had
liardly Deem grasped that finished steel
products for sale to customer outside of
the organisation was In 1!K. 6,,932 tons,
the lowest for sny calendar year since the
United Statee 8tel corporation has been
organized. This fact coupdd with the
renewed decline in demand, which alone
considered, make the value of shares dif
ficult of comprehension Part of the ex
planation Is found In the statement of
capital expenditure, which have gone Into
the property. The amount given In this
report as having been expended since the
organisation of the corporation for addi
tional property and construction, exclusive
of the Tennessee Coal and Iron company,
ajid the Union and Clalrton Steel com pan rs
amounts to a total of 31S.m2.93I. on ac

leaving the prodigious sum of t308.80lt.Oi6,
which has gone for these purposes from
the current earnings and surplus of the
corporation. The day s dealings expanded

CATTLE Receipts of cattle thlg morning
were only moderate, making the total for
the week to date about the same as for Isst
week, but considerably larger than two
weeks ago and about 2,000 head larger than
for the same period a year ago. As was
the case yesterday the market was very
slow and unsatisfactory to the selling Inter
ests. Trices have been breaking down rap
idly this week, following the weak cloae
laat week, and the trade ties been dull and
more or less uneven every day. This morn
ing buyers started out pounding priees the
same as yesieroay. ana witn reports rrom
other selling points unfavorable they were
able to enforce the most of their demands.
Still salesmen made a hard fight to main
tain the market, and It waa well along to
ward midday hefore very much business
had been transacted.
Beef sters were weak to 10c lower all
the morning, but toward the close it firmed
up a little and some salesmen thought they
got out at as good prices as yesterday.
Cows and heifers were slow all day, hut
the prices paid were not so very much dif
ferent from yesterday, salesmen In most
cases quoting It as about steady
StiK-kers and feeders were slow seller
all day and the market was VxnlSe lower.
The sharp break In beef cattle has natur
allv weakened country buyers and with a
lighter demand the market could hardly
fail to r.how a decline.

BHUihif Everything In tha way of de
sirable killers looked good to buyers thlg
morning and they picked them up about aa
fast aa they could get to them, paying
price that were lb3bo higher than yester
day. Soma of the trains were late, but
that did not make any difference. Buyers
took everything having any quality as fast
as It arrived. Good Mexican lambs, the
same aa brought 87.80 yesterday, sold at
87.60 today. The same Mexican yearling
that have been bringing 86.76 and ft) so, go
ing at the latter price yesterday, sold to
day at 87. Mexican ewes also sold as high
so.w. 'mere waa one little Duncn of
clipped lambs which went at 8o.S0.
After the first run early In the morning
It seemed as If the market eaaed up a
little; mat is, buyers began talking that
there was no ocotalon for such a wild
market, and It looked easier.
It will be noted from tha table of re
ceipts that arrivals today were small, only
seventeen cara being reported In, making
the total for the week decidedly emaller
than laat week. That fact, together with
a more favorable outlook at eastern con
suming centers, waa largely responsible
for the sharp advance In today's market.
It will be of Interest to note that ton
tamb at 87.60 were the highest sold since
January, wnen there waa a top of 17.75
Yearlings, selling at 87.00, were the highest
since January, when the same price waa
paid, and with that exception the higheet
since March of last year, when the top
was $7.60. Ewes sold today at 86.60, which
waa the highest prioe paid since May of
last year.
