(Continued from First Pag-)
tha Greeks returning to South Omaha will
?fat Seeara Lease.
Anoher meeting of th Greek association
will ba held In Omaha probably Sunday
afternoon to discuss th situation. At pres
ent the leaders bar found it impoasibl
to call a meeting aa tha Greeks of South
Omaha, who they want at tha meeting, ar
too busy looking After their property to
attend meetings. The who can speak
English well ar kept busy assisting others
in conferences with attorneys aad with the
officials.
Some of tha Greeks fear they cannot
get an opportunity to lease property In
South Omaha again and this may prove
true. Owners are backward about discuss
ing tha question, but it is said on good
authority that many leases will not ba re
newed when they expire.
sheriff Did Call Trwapa,

"It was an llradviaed move and even the

"Wa do not erpect any more trouble and
the deputiea have been called In, though
they ar. In readiness, of course, to go

this article, and his ruling Is ss follows:
Th rights and privileges granted to th
subjects of Greece in Article 1 of the treety

force of law. The word 'subjects' in the
treaty embraces corporations, joint stork
companies, and other association, commer

Settleaseat with Italian.
Th treaty with Italy, made tn 1871. does
not guarantee property ot Italian subjects,
but congress, nevertheless, made aettle
ment of property losses sustained in the
riots In New Orleans a few years ago The
Italian government at that time made de
mand upon the government of the United
titatea for reconmpense for Italian subjects
killed and for Italian property destroyed.
This government replied that it could do
nothing under Us dual form of govern
ment, explaining lta inability to compel
a atate to make recompense. The foreign
government claimed to misunderstand the
explanation and recalled its minister. Out
of a spirit of amity congress then made
settlement for the New Orleans losses,
though disavowing any liability.
The treaty with Italy was made In isn.
but is qutte diferent from that with Greece,
as it doea not guarantee property of Italian
subjects. Article X of this treaty, con
taining the govetqing feature, reads as
follows:
The citizens of esch of the high con
tracting parties shall have liberty to travel
in the atatea aid territories of the other,
to carry on trad, wholesale and retail, to
hire and occupy houses and warehouses, to
employ agent of their choice, and gener
ally to do anything incident to or neces
sary for trade upon the same terms as th
natives of the country, submitting them
selves to the lews there estsbllshed.
A circuit court decision ef 1838 reads:
Under article S of the treaty of ISTl,
Italian subjects have the some rights ss
ritlaena of the United States, and no
greater.

Henry C. Murphy, on of the speakers
at the Sunday mass meeting from which

lengthy statement, says:
"It is only fair to Representatives How
ard. Kraus and myself, to bere and now
specifically deny the use at the mass meet
ing of the inflammatory language which
has been charged to myself and others, and
I now say and can establish the fact by
lf prominent taxpayers and citizens of
South Omaha that the statements. 'Avenge
the blood of Lowerx." or The blood of
Lcwery is en tbe Greek colony," and other
kindred statements, were never aaade er
used at the mass meeting, or at any other
time or place in South Omaha.
"For soma reason certain newspspers bate
purposely and willfully misrepresented the
entire affair. For instance. It is reported
thst ISo.tMw worth of glass was destroyed,
where, aa a matter of fact. Il.onv would re
place all the shattered glass la the city.
"Ia this connection it mast be remetabrred
that the mass meeting, at which I presided,
every other .rltisra in it as well as myself
rear-nt the idea of violence, aad it must also
be remembered thst the reckless bead of
boys who committed these depredation-)
were not In fact at the mass meeting, aor
took any part In its dcUbcrsttona, aad couU
not hav knowa what bad transpired at th

"I will sot yield the first place to say riti

th general feeling that acta ot violence
