The supply of beef cattle waa Very liberal,
but the quality was not overly good and
a considerable proportion of the receipt
consisted of warmed-up or hort-fed steer.
Packers all seemed to have noerai oroera
for good killing cattle and it was very
apparent tltat they wanted everything of
that doBcrlptlon. The result was tnat me
market was active and price were any
where from strong to 10c higher on tlie
beat cattle, with other generally steady.
There waa nothing strictly good to put a
top on the market, but pretty fair steera
old up o 85.75. Common to fair ateera were
not such free aellers. but fortunately feeder
buyer took quite a number of the
warmed-up kinds, which relieved the mar
ket to such an extent that good steady
price were maintained. - .
Desirable kinds or cow and heifers were
lso very free sellers and generally 10c
higher than last week. The market waa
fairly active and the offerings were pretty
much all cleaned up in good season. The
common to medium kinds were not ao ac
tive, but pretty much everything sold in
reasonable season.
Stockers and feeders were alao In snod
demand and everything that could be con-
aidered at all desirable commanded strong
prices, the market being in a good healthy
and entirely Batiafactcry condition.

Packers all eemed to have good order
nnd the market as a whole was in a good,
healthv condition. Prlcea ranged anywhere
from steady to 10c higher on the different
grades according to how badly packers
happened to want them. The trade wa not
very activ largely for the reason that
packers eemed lo regard current prices a

was a little hesitancy on their part and
still practically everything had changed

Mayor Dahlmnn will be a candidal foi
re-election, whether the election is in ins
spring or the fall, as It would be wer the
democrate' flan to enact a charter bill pro-
onglng the present administration bo suc
cessful.
The mayor ha beeen deferring hi decl-
lon until he knew what sort of legislation
for the government of metropolitan cities
he democratic legislature would enact, bul
he has decided not to watt for the lcgls
lature.
In this early decision Dalliman hopes to
put to sleep several little boomlets wnlch
have been springing up in tho camp of
local democracy.
'I will be a candidate for re-election
which is the same a saying that I have
decided to be mayor of thl city (or another
three yeara," said the mayor. "I hardly
hlnk there will be any opposition to me
n the primaries, and you know wnat 1
did to them In the last election," and he
laughed at the recollection ot his 3,000
majority.
'You ace, it is this way. The republicans
will not only have to nominate a liberal
man to beat me, but they will have to
nominate a man who la well known. Why,
every man, woman And child In Omaha
knows Jim Dahlman and knows 'where
Jim Dahlman stands and knows what Jim
Dalilman believes in. Well, the republicans
might nominate a man who believes the
same a I do, but the people don't know
that m.m as well as they do me. There's
the rub, you know, and there Is where I
am going o beat 'em.
I think the majority, If not all, of the
present councllmen will also be candidates
again and we'll all win."
There are six other democrats who have
the mayoralty bee bussing in their bon
net. The other would-bo mayor In the
democratic camp are Ed P. Smith, whom
Dahlman defeated for tho nomination
three yeara ago: Colonel Ed P. Berry man.

nell, city building inspector and elected on
the same ticket with Dahlman at the last
election; Millard F. Funkhouser, council
man from the Eleventh ward and elected
with Dahlman; L. B. Johnson, councilman
from the Fourth ward, elected ' on the
Dahlman ticket and made president on the
city council by grace of the same Dahl
mnn; C. O. Irfibeck, elected city comp
troller on the Dahlman ticket of three
years ago and worsted by the mayor In the
capturing of the home support for the
gubernatorial nomination laat summer.
Comptroller Lobeck probably would be
the mayor's strongest spponent In tha pri
maries, but the executive look to the leg
islature to remove him from the field. The
ran be done by repealing; the law combin
ing the offices of city and county comp
troller, thus giving Mr. Lobeck a chance
lo run for that office again, . Instead of
running tor mayor.
Building Inspector WHhnell prides him
self with having received a larger vote
fian did the mayor In the election of the
rprlng of 1906, and for this reason his
friends think that he Is stronger than
Mayor Dahlman, but If the legislature
should raise the salary of building In
spector, WHhnell will not run for mayor.
