Wheat allowed considerable strength from
the mart, and buying power waa strong

advance was ateady. with May option
showing the better toi. December wheat

Corn sympathised with wheat early and
made some gain. Interest Is slack, how
ever, and coupled with a higher demand,

In published reports of great orders placed
for commodities, wholesale resumptions by
mills and sudden activity In commercial
lines. Thene reports wers borne out. In
part, by the more sober and detailed can
vass of the commercial agencies, whose
weekly reports testified fully to the re
vival In progress. In the case of some de
tailed reports railroad orders bn an enor
mous scale for new equipment and other
outlay, there came specific denials. A
lively effect on the speculation was caused
by the belief that the railroads of the coun
try were embarked upon a concerted at
tempt toward higher freight charges. The
temporary injunction granted against the
enforcement of the Interstate Commerce
commission for reduction of Missouri river
rates fed the conviction that the railroads
re to have a freer hand In fixing charges.
Some effect on prices was mads In the
second hour by the extensive realising
sales, but new points of strength were de
veloping where the market cloaed In great
animation. The sharp reduction In the
banking surplus was predicted before the
market closed, although th statement was
not published until afterwards.
The bond market was active and strong.

aged hy drouth caused an advance of more

Anxiety among wheat trudnra concerning
the new corn crop was aroused by ih

yxaterday ana which showed a serious de
terioration . In the fTowing crop in tout
. state Owing to lack of moisture. A local
crop expert In a report published today
maintained that the Ohio report was only
a forerunner of many similar pronounce
ments, and the' December government re-
fort would show that new sown wheat In
ndlana, Michigan, Illinois, Tennessee and
Kentucky whs In the poorest condition re
corded In many years. It was slso claimed
that the condition of the crop in Missouri,
. Kansas and Oklahoma woulu be found to
be very low. As a result of these advice
and owing to sharp advances at th prin
cipal European centers, demand for wheat
here waa urgent all day and prices ad
vanced steadily throughout th entire ses
sion. Demand for cash wheat here showed
some improvement and prices were a trifle
higher for the best grades, while low grades
were rather weak. The market closed
strong at almost the best prices of the day,
with December at !.1S and May at 31. (ft.
Clearances of wheat and flour were equal
to 4u4,W) bit. Primary receipts were 1,149,00
bu., compared with G&A.OOO bu. the corres
ponding day a year ago. Minneapolis, Du
luth and Chicago reported receipts of Ktl
crs, against HA cars last week and 4-14 cars
a year ago.
Local hulls were actlv.e bidders for corn
today and as a result the market was firm
all aay. The buying was baaed chiefly on
the continued small receipts dessiite the fa
vorable conditions for the movement of
the new crop. Advices from the country
stated that farmers were not willing to
sell their corn at present prices. The ad
. vance In wheat also Inspired some !(mand.
The market closed strung with prices up H

at 66z'62Vlc. almost the top point of the
season. Local receipts, Wi cars, with 2 of
contract grade.
Oat were firm on fair demand by rash
'houses. The market closed firm, with

provisions derived moderate firmness
from the strength of grain, shorts being
buyers in the eaily aession. The bulk of

continues high over the western portion of
th country. The wave of warmer weather
accompanying th depression over Oie cen
tral valleys Friday morn ng has spread over
the east and south and temperatures are
much higher everywhere east of the Mis
sissippi river, with generally cloudy
weather. Considerable cloudiness Is shown
in the extreme northwest and on the north
Pacific coast, but generally clesr weather
prevails elsewhere west of th Mississippi
river. Temperatures are somewhat lower
In th upper Mississippi and lower Missouri
valleys and are slightly lower on the Pa
cific slope. They are slightly higher In the
extreme upper Missouri valley and moun
tain districts. Fair weather will continue

ful. Home rails benefited by the settle
ment of the cotton lockout and foreigners

shares, after wide fluctuations, closed firm.
Consols were an exception and continued
neglected. American rails opened consider
ably higher In response to the strength of
Wall street and covering operations carried

CATTLE! There were no cattl here to
day to make a market and for the week the
mcelpts have shown a very heavy falling
off as well, as will be noted from the
figures st head of column. Receipts look
small even as compared with last week's
unusually light run.
Under the influence of a good buying de
mand, coupled with bght receipts, prices
this week hsve steadily strengthened up
ana tne market, as a whole, has been In
a very satisfactory condition as viewed
from a seller's standpoint. More cornfeds
ar arriving as the season advancea and
as the supply of westerns diminishes, they
are selling to better advantage. Anything
ai an accent can be quoted 26c higher for
the week, but as most of the cattle have
been on the common to fair order there
has been nothing upon which quotations
can be advanced on paper. Range beeves
have sold very freely all the week, and
they are aafely 2d40c higher than last
week s close.
All desirable grades of cows and heifers
nava teen free sellers every dsy this week
snd they are at the close, 26340c higher
than last week. Common grades, gen
erally known aa canners, have not parti
cipated to any great extent In the advance,
that kind being rather dull most of the
week, but still price have been well main
tained and they are now possibly a trifle
hlghor than last week's clos.
Feeders hive been- In good demand
throughout the week, and while they, too,
have aold higher, It will be remembered
that prices on that kind of cattlo were
pretty well up last week, so that there was
not room for quite so much advance as
for beef csttle. While some kinds might
show more advance, generally speaking,
the foeder market Is lVo'JSc higher than
last week and the trade in a good healthy
condition.

HoOS Receipts of hogs this morning
were small, as they have been all the week,
but In spit of that fact th market was
slow In getting stsrted and It was at no
time very lively. The best hogs sold from
pretty nesrly steady to 6c lower, with the
close slow rind weak. Cimmon, light ho
were poor sellers throughout the morning
at bottom prices. The most of the hog
sold at t3.7(X(i6.HO, and on up to 35.96.
Receipts of hogs this week have been
slightly higher then last week and week
before, but still the run has been very
moderate. Prices advanced steadily durlr
the early part of the week, reaching the
high point of the week on Wednesday,
when the market on an average waa 0c
higher than the close of the previous
week. During the latter half there has
been a downward tendency, so that at
Hie close the nuuket ! only 510c higher
tl m it was laat Saturday.
