I'ndenlfcbly tired, but altogether well
pleased, society has concluded another car
nival aeaaon and la ready for whatever the
autumn may bring. The Coronation ball.
always the chief social function of the
year, was. If possible, even more of a suc
cess than ever. There was a genuine In
terest and enthusiasm among the members
of this fashionable set that always mean
succeas for the object of lta Interest. Gos
sip has It that there were more new cos-
tumes worn at the ball Friday night than
for ten years paat. This may be due In a
rncasur to tha radical change In the fall
styles, but this fact alone can not be
counted responsible for the preaenca of so
many entirely new and elaborate toilets.
Psactlcally "everybody" was at tha ball
and down on the floor, and the "gallery
party" which has been such a fad for sev
eral years was noticeably lacking.
' -The army contingent has also contributed
its; chars to the week's success. The pres
ence of the officers and their ladles was a
feature of the ball, but even more noticeable
was their hospitality at Fort Omaha and
,Fort Crook, a pleasing supplement to the
military features of the week. But hoapl.
taUty abounda In the army and the two
neighboring .posts and the headquarters'
staff have and promise to continue to con
tribute much to the social life of the city.
' The children's ball was a triumph for all
who had a part In It,. and all feel an Inter.
est In the autumn festivities. It shared
honors with tha big function of Friday
The closing month at Happy Hollow club
starts with a larte attendance and Sntirr
day night over 180 reservations were made
for dinner. The club house will be open
until Hallowe en, when It will be closed for
tha winter. The Field club has closed, but
Happy Hollow Is fortunate In the posses
sion of a club house which may easily be
warmed, and consequently may keep epen
until later In the season. The club has had
a moet prosperous season and has proven
that there was a place for It In the social
life of Omaha, even though older and larger
clubs were In existence when It was or
ganised.
