Fifteen Men, Cleveland
Scores.
CLEVELAND, Oct. 2. Cleveland defeated
Chicago today In the most remarkable
game of the year In the big leagues, by
tho score ot 1 to 0. Joss, pitching for
Cleveland, not only shut Chicago out with
out a hit, but he did not allow one of his
pponents to reach first bare, although
the visitors used three pinch hitters In the
inth inning. Joss was aided by some re
markable support from Manager Lajole,
who made several phenomenal pickups. On
the other hand, Walsh, the Chicago man,
pitched a sensational game, striking out
fifteen men In eight Innings. Cleveland
was abla to bat but four balls past the In
field, and only five of the locals reached
first base. Cleveland scored Its only run
In the third. Birmingham led off with a
single. Walsh caught him napping oft
first, but Isbell'a throw to second hit the
runner In. the head and lie went to third,
whence ha scored when Walsh and Schreck
became crossed In their signals and a ball
went to the grandstand. With Joss at bat
In the eighth, Schreck had a finger broken
which will keep him out ot the game for
the rest of the season. Score:

DETROIT. Oct. 2. Detroit disnosed of
Waddell In one Inning and then almost
threw away the game by erratic fielding
and reckless basii runninar. The hit I ins- of
Crawford and Rossman tied it In the
seventh and won It in the ninth. There was
a warm argument on whether Rossman'
hit that came In the ninth with the score
tied and Cobb at first was only a double
under ground ruins, but the umpires ruled
In favor of Detroit and Cobb, who had
scorea easily, was allowed to count his run,
