O'Connor la Elected President After .Lively Dispute. ST. LOUIS, Sept. Z2. A heated meeting of the western division. Amateur Athletic union, was held here tonight. Two candi dates for the presidency were In the field and the contest became so bitter that a ruling was obtained from National Presi dent James E. Sullivan of New York, as to the eligibility of Edward Cocheme, for merly of the University of Wisconsin, for the office. John J. O'Connor, present head of the division, had ruled that Cochems was ineligible to office in the Amateur Athletic union because he la now a pro fessional coach at St. Louis University. At the meeting tonight Cochems and O'Connor were nominated for the presi dency of the division and Cochems exhib ited a letter from President Sullivan con taining a ruling from the legislative com mittee of the national bodv to the effect that there la no rule of the union prohib iting a professional cnacn from serving as an officer of the organisation. Cochems Immediately charged that un fair methods had been used and declared he would appeal to National President Sul livan. Later the new board relnatated to good standing the Kansas City Athletic club, but Martin Delaney, representative of the organisation, refused to accept this action and resigned from the board. The club was under the ban for allowing un registered athletea to compete in a recent meet. York High In Training. YORK. Neb.. Bept. 22. (Special.)
