Heavy receipts ami large exacted coun

continue Isrge prices will hava to come to
a lower level.
Wheat proved a dull affair owing to the
short faturday session and the holiday to

CATTLE Only a few scattering bunches
of cuttle were on sale ttils morning, there
not lielng enough of anything to make any
test of ti e maikei. It in am be said, how
ever, that tile feel.ng waa ah mt steady
with eMerday. For the week the receipts
hkve teen mil;e lilirial, showl' g a gain over
previous weeks of recent dale and being
about on a par with the receipts of the
corre spending week nf last year. The mar
ket as a whole has been in spiendid condi
tion as viewed from a seller's standpoint.
In spile or the fact that the arrivals on
most days hava been larga tne demand has
been sufficiently urgent to take everything
coming, with the result that the market
throughout the week, has been in a guad
healthy condition.
Hardly enough corn-fed steers have been
received during tha week to make a real
test of the market on that kind, ths ar
rivals being limited to a load or two a
day. ei'll the few cattle of that kind ar
riving have met with very ready sale at
Mrong prices as compared with last week,
tcinge. beef rattle have been active selleis
mi practically every day throughout the
week, with prices quoted steady or strong
until at the close it Is safe to Bay lha.1 the
general market ia around 10ff)15c higher
than it waa at the dope of last week. The
way buyers have taken everything .coming
It has been very evident thai they have
had a place to put the cnttle and that may
he taken us tin explanation of the fart that
prices have advanced in the face of very
liberal receipts.
The market on cows and heifers also haa
been In very satisfactory condition through
out the wholo week. '1 ne demand has been
active, so that each day's arrivals have
liicl Kith quite ready s.tlu at prices allowing
more or les otretiRUi from day to day.
At the close of the week the market Is
;irouini loc higher thiui lasf week a close.
Tho strength shown has not been limited
to any one kind, strictly good cattle, aa
well as cunneis, being quoted higher.
tlood fleshy leedeis have been in active
demand throughout the week, selling freely
every day at good steady prices and at the
close of the week the market Is fullv
slealy with a Week ago. On the other
hand there has been a large supply of com
mon to medium grades of both stockeis
and feeders, which have been rather slow
sale every day, the country not appearing
to care tor that kind. Hence there has
been a tendency toward accumulation of
thai cla.a ol cattle in the hands of specu
lators, witli tne natural result that prices
have had a downward tendency. At the
clone of the week they are around 15f).'6o
lower than lust week and 25i4uc lower tnan
the high time two weeks ago.

H(X1S Hogs opened 5c higher this morn
ing and the trade was fairly active at tha
advance, so fnr as the good hogs were con
cerned at least. Later on, as advices from
other points were none too good, and as
later trains brought In quite a good manv
hogs, the market' eased off, the advance of
the morning being lost. The trade waa
very dull at the close and the feeling weak
and unsatisfactory as .compared with the
early market. The hogs sold very largely
at VJ.o.Voii.o"), as against I6.65li6.6n yester
day. The top hogs reached $6.75. which
was 5c higher than yesterday's top and the
highest price paid Ir. a long time.
lleceipta of hogs this week have been
sligiitly less than last week and consider
ably smaller than a year ago. The market
this week has fluctuated hack and forth,
the low point having been rearhed on
Thursday. The improvement In prices yes
terday and today lenves Ihe market about
lfc higher than at the close of last week
and al the high point of the year to date.
