backward and slowly taken. Sentiment

Wheat proved a dull affair owing to the
short faturday session and the holiday to
come Monday. Bhort selling on the larger
northwestern receipts proved the real factor
for the decline.
Advices show a good demand all along

September wheat opened at 9ic and closed
at MSc.
Corn sold off moderately on reaHiing.
The weather continues Ideal throughout the
belt, and Die forecast la for continued fair
conditions. The weather la still the Im

not lielng enough of anything to make any

previous weeks of recent dale and being
about on a par with the receipts of the
corre spending week nf last year. The mar
ket as a whole has been in spiendid condi
tion as viewed from a seller's standpoint.
In spile or the fact that the arrivals on
most days hava been larga tne demand has
been sufficiently urgent to take everything
coming, with the result that the market
throughout the week, has been in a guad
healthy condition.
Hardly enough corn-fed steers have been
received during tha week to make a real
test of the market on that kind, ths ar
rivals being limited to a load or two a

riving have met with very ready sale at

ing and the trade was fairly active at tha
advance, so fnr as the good hogs were con
cerned at least. Later on, as advices from
other points were none too good, and as
later trains brought In quite a good manv
hogs, the market' eased off, the advance of
the morning being lost. The trade waa
very dull at the close and the feeling weak
and unsatisfactory as .compared with the
early market. The hogs sold very largely
at VJ.o.Voii.o"), as against I6.65li6.6n yester
day. The top hogs reached $6.75. which
was 5c higher than yesterday's top and the
highest price paid Ir. a long time.

ably smaller than a year ago. The market

the low point having been rearhed on
