Mr. and Mrs. William Ames. She was
married to Dr. James Porter Peck In
Cleveland, O., In 1850, and one son, Edward
Porter Peck of Omaha, survives this union.
For many years , Mrs. Peck was promi
nently Identified with the charitable work
of her churoh and the city, but her ad
vanced age necessitated her withdrawal
from active work of late. During tha ab
sence of her son and family In the east
this summer' Mrs. Peck was a guest at
ths home of her granddaughter, Mrs.
Joseph Barker, Jr., and It was while there
that the general breakdown, ' from which
her death resulted, took plaea.- Two weeks
go she was removed to the home of her
son, whose family had hurried home be
cause of her illness. ' '
Mra. Hawley was born at Hlllsboro. N
if.. In 1SJS. Bhe married John D. Hawley
In 1864 at Carthage, 111. They moved to
Rock Island, where Mr. Hawley practiced
law for many years. For three terms he
was In congress from that district and un
der tha Hayes administration was assistant
secretary of the treasury. They came to
Omaha twenty years ago rrom Chicago.
Threa daughters. Misses Mary, Hattle and
Clara, survive Mrs. Hawley. They have
always made their home wjtb. their mother.
Mr. Hawley became general attorney' of
tha old Fremont, Elk horn & Mlasourl
Valley railroad on coming to Omaha. He
died fourteen years ago. He and his
family were always Presbyterians. Mr.
Hawley waa aa officer In the union army
during the civil war.
