CATYleE Receipt of cattl were quit
liberal for Wednesday 2Wi cars fwlng le
pjrted in. As was the case yesterday and
the day before, just about half Of me re
ceipts consisted of cow stuff, the run of
cow and heifer having been very muci,
larger than usual. Thera wa also a very
fair sprinkling of storkers and feeders, so
tnat tnere was no great number ot utel
steers on sale.
Sp.-culatora nad s great many stocker
and feeding cattle on nand that they had
carried over from Monday and yesterday,
and It wa not expected that they would
be very free buyer of tht kind of caitie
this morning; (till they wer out in good
season and th first cattl to ell wer
feeder, but It w noticeable that th
demand called n oatly for th better gradm
of fiehy feeder. Cattle of tnat descrip
tion sola about steady with yesterday. On
the other hand common medium kinds
were slow and the tendency a little lower
on account of the large upply on hand.
In view of the number of cattle on sale it
would look aa if parties desiring stockers
or feeders ought to be able to find most
anything that they m:ght want.
When the market opened on beef iteers.
It beca.ne apparent that there was really a
pretty fair demand, while the offering!
were by no means large. The tesult wa a
fairly active market after It wa once
started, with prices showing up no ma
terial change.
Cows and heifers were slow to cwen.
Receipts were large, as roted sbove ani
buyers started out bidding considerably
lower than yesterday. Later on the ap
pearance of buyers with snipping ordet.
who took hold freely helped tue trade very
materially. o that price after all did not
show much change aa compared with
yesterday, but the market is safely 2ic
lower than th c)oe of lat wee.

HOGS Receipts of
hogs wer not very
large this morning, but report from other
selling points wer not encouraging b,' any
means and the general trade at this p .int
was slow snd unsatisfactory. Pr.ces were
generally 10c lower than yesterday and
good deal of time was consumed In making
clearance. The hog sold largely at and
right around M.30. with a top at K52L. It
will be remembered that yesterday a g od
hare of the hogs went at and right around
SC40. nearly half of all the hogs telling at
that price.
The weakness developed In the market
yesterday, together with the decline re
ported today, wiped out the most of the ad
vance of Monday, leaving the market very
little different from what it was st the
close cf laat week.

SHEEP Receipt of sheep were again
very large this morning, but. unfortunately,
nearly half of the sheep reported did not
arrive at th yards until late tn the fore
noon. These sheep were loaded at Valley
before dark last night, a distance of on!.
about thirty miles from the yard, but It
took them all night and a good part of the
forenoon to travel that distance, l.a.e ar
rival of the stock naturally delayed thu
trade, so that the morning wa much fur
ther advanced than uiual before buyer
and sellers got down to business.
There wer a good msny feeder buyers
In the yard again Hit morning, but they
wer not eager a yesterday, and it
wa very evidont that the wire edge tti
orr the market: still thr wa a pretty
fair demand and some ssles ac'.uallv looked
strong, while others were weaker.
The market on fat sheep snd lambs wa
alao lacking in snap, being alow from th)
very beginning. The fact that th Chi
cago market wa reported lower yesterday
and on Monday, especially on lamb, and
also again lower thia morning made buyers
feel thst they were entitled to some con
cession here. Salesmen worked hard t
maintain the market, but in spile of their
effort the moat of the fat stuff had to
sell in th end around 10c lower than
yoterda y.
