Diplomas and state certi ficates were issued to eiglity-eight members of the teachers and scientific departments: twenty-five diplomas to r.e commercial de partment, and one to the music department. Prof, and Mrs. C. H. Wright, former teachers Ir- the school, have returned from a three-year stay In the Philippines and take a place In the faculty. President J. M. Pile lias recovered from his illness and has been ahle to be at his office a short time each day for a week. More than l.S-.D different students were en rolled during the last school year and a greater attendance is expected the ensuing year. President Pile has decided not to accept the appointment of the National Civic fed eration for a month's visit to England to study the school systems of that country. Highland Park college is In scs:on forty eight w.H-ka during ach school year, con sequently the commencement exercises re cur later than in most tollcg. s. The fol lowing facts were given out by President Longwell at the close of the year during the commencement season: Number of students enroll d for the college year. 2.JS4; number of states represented. Sf'. and the Dlstrkt of Columbia; five foreign countries were represented. Students were present from 'M of the 99 counties of Icwa. The number of graduates was ;ti. the gradu ates representing IS states. During the school year the college In- ! stalled a complete system of sewerage for all the college plant, nine buildings In al'. at an expense of about M.tcO. During the year a new biological laboratory was es tablished and fully equipped, said to be the most complete biological laboratory In Iowa. Also a rew physical laboratory was insidllitl and equipped, which Is as com plete as any to be found In the state. This completes the full complement of labora tories at Highland Fark college, making s complete a systom of laboratories as ran be found In any school in the west compounding, chemical, assaying, pharma ceutical, biological, physical and electrical laboratories. In addition to these the col lege maintains the most completely equipped machine shops to be found : In connection with any engineering school in the United States. The Investments In buildings and grounds make up from tT.Ono a $S.0o0. There are over sixty members in the college faculty, all graduates of the leading colleges and universities of the United States. The last year was the most successful year In every way in the hia- tory of the college. At commencement season the college management announced the opening for next year of the m w college of law.
