With lighter receipts during the remainder of the week prices nave gradually iirmea up on range uttici until the decline has been entirely recov ered. In other words, the week closes with raiiiie ateera selling! In about the same notches ss they were at the close ot last week. With corn-fed steers the situation haa been auite different. Range steers are being given the preference by packers, who take them to a considerable extent in place of the higher priced corn-feda Thus the demand -all the week has been far from uiacnt for the corn-fed cattle. At t. hlcavo, where the receipts of such cattle were fairly liberal, the market was in a most unsatisfactory condition. To make anotiier comparison, ne receipts nave been the largest of any week since the week closing Alay 2. The arrivals have consisted slniost entirely of western rangers, old wethers and yearlings predominating, with ewes and lambs In very moderate supply on some days, at least. When It comes to a question of prices. the week's trsde has not been at all to the Iking of st'llrra. The Chicago market, aa noted yesterday, experienced a very sever slump, especially on lambs, which de cltneti anywhere from 50c to 3100 per loxi. according to quality, with such a heavy break at eastern points and with liberal receipts locslly and with all other markets reporting lower prices. It was Impossible to prevent a eliarp decline here, although the buying demand was good most of the week. Ry using the break at Chi cago a a club, buyer were aide to pound values nre to tne extent or i''i4oc, as com pared with a week ago. As usual, when tii market Is undergoing the hammering process, me irsde was pretty dull on some day!', salesmen fighting hard for every cent mat was to oe had and holding on until the last minute before making concessions Considering the conditions prevailing at other points, the market here has been aa good as could well be expected. The fact that the demand for fredera Is steadily improving, nas a tendency to relieve the pressure a good deal, feeder buyers taking a good deal of the stuff that would other wise naw to go to Killers.
