Those Pueblo Indiana fought hart) for
the final came of the series Monday af
ternoon but Hollcnbeck waa In the box
and aa ha ti the real ladles' day pitcher
they had to b satisfied with, a "close"
and closea don't count for any more In
baseball - than they do In some other
games. To Hollenbeck rightly belongs a
great deal of -the credit of winning the
game, lie not only pitched a good game
In the fare of five errors but he also hit
out the ball In the two Innings when lilts
counted most.
The game was a real thriller from start
to finish. Pueblo made one In the first
and another In the fourth Inning. Honskl
was pitching and Mltie was catching-
think Yif that combination to beat Honskl
and Mitxe! Honskl had been throwing
some lalapolups and but one Champ had
connected safely until the fifth, when Hol
lenbeck made a nice one over second.
Omaha then made one run In the fifth and
another In the sixth, which tied the score.
Pueblo took a lead of one tn the first of
the eighth, but Omaha, took that lead right
away from them In the last half. The
nlntii came, and Orpaha won the game,
won It by beautiful stick work by Hollen
beck and Fisher and Autrey. The game
broke up as soon as Hollenbeck had scored
his second' mn.
Twt Almost Given Away,
Bases on balls ware responsible for the
first two runs by Patterson's Indiana, as
'n both eases a ha lie on balls developed
Into a run, the first one aided by a stolen
t.iie, an error by Gondlng and Patterson's
flngti. Tho second was boosted along by
a sacrifice by Mattlcks and Clark's double.
Then came the mighty Omaha's with a
rush In the fifth, but the rush was soon
stopped by Welch striking out with three
on bases, but one was driven across the
plate by a base on ball". With two out
Hollenbeck and Fisher had hit saftly and
King walked. lionHkl mas getting shaky
and looked llko a goner but he braced
enough to strike out Welch, when he was
about to hit the ball over the fence and
clean U pthe bases and win tha game right
there.
Patterson let Ilonskl stay for the sixth
and Omaha got another run and tied the

score. Austin opened the inning witn a
single, stole second and third and came
home on a passed ball. That was the end
of Honski and Willie Frttgerald waa
brought forth. He did Just well enough
to lose the game.
II Ma (Mill Get "cores.
Pueblo broke tho tie In the eighth by
simply hitting the ball. Spencer hit ona
over Austin's head for a single and Pat
terson followed with a double to the left
field fence. Then came Omaha to tie up
the game and succeeded. Welch Tew out
and Austin hit a corker to the middle field
fence for three. Belden drove a hot one
at Hoggie's shlnns, which the ancient one
could not handle and Austin cam home
with the tie.
The ninth was an Interesting and all
around Inning, as was ever played at the
ol park. Hollenbeck shone like a brilliant
star and not only pitched himself out ot
tha bole with three on bases, with none
out, but also made the hit which finally
won the game. A base on balla. a slowly
fielded ball and Hollenbeck's error filled
the bases with no one out. It really
looked disastrous. Fltagerald eased tha
tension a little by fouling out to Austin.
Hnggle popped one to the pitcher, who
considerately sidestepped and let Autrey
take the ball. Spencer hit a high one,
which King nailed back of second and the
side was down.
Knew an Opportunity.
Hollenbeck had the chalrice to win his
own game and took that chance. He hit
a, double to the Ight field fence. The
' Pueblo Infield played In close but that
mattered little to Fisher, who hit a hard
one at the pitcher. Fits threw to third
but Holly was already there. King hit
to Corhan but Holly did not dare to move
and one was out. Then along came the
Chicken and he hit one to Corhan. Hol
lenbeck sprinted for the plate and beat the
ball and the game was won.
The game was most Interesting to watch
and although there were errors and some
loose fielding, there waa also some very
sharp fielding and fast playing. Chicken
made a beautiful catch after a hard run
and Mattlcks made the sensational catch
of the day, a one-handed affair, after a
hard run. Austin pulled off a pretty dou
ble play when he stopped a fast grounder,
touched a runner and caught the batsman
at first.
