Prleea 00 Board of Trade.
CHICAGO. July 26. The local wheat mar

brought out chiefly by additional rn,tn
in the Dakota. At the close, the Septem

:hanged. Oat were lV41ilc lower. Pro
.lelons, oVfllSc lower.
The wheat mnrket opened weak and w(tli
:he exception of a slight rally toward the
middle of the session, haeed on a sharp ad
vance at Winnipeg, continued heavy the
entire day. !n addition to the favorable
weather conditions In the northwest the
weak tone of the IJverpnol and an almost
tolsl absence of export demand helped to
depress ths local market. The market
closed weak, at almort the lowest point.
Feptember opened 1e to H'BV lower at
!r,(a91c. sold off to 9oflc, and then
advanced to 91c. The cloae was at 90
JOOHe.
Clearances of wheat and flour were equal

bushels compared with 7M.O0O bushels the

Ml cars a year ago.
Trado In corn was dull and sentiment In

t time the September delivery displayed
:nnslderabl firmness on covering by
horts. Favorable weather for the new
crop and a slump Inmost were the chief
depressing Influences. The market closed
falrlv steady. September opened c lower

local receipts 147 cars, with eight car
contract.
The feature of trade In osts was a 6 cent
break In the price of July delivery. The
stump occurred lute In the day and was
rauaed by realising sales on prospects of
much more liberal receipts of osts In the
Immediate future. A decline of VCHc, In
the cssh grain had a depressing effect on
options. Deferred futures declined from
H4l!c. The close was near the low point
of the day. July owned at 56c. sold off
to tQtc and closed at 61c. September

Market Sells Off on Rumon Begirding

DROP DEVELOPS SHARP DEMAND
Substantial Rally Follow Despite
Fact There Is Little la News to
Indicate (hanged Con
ditions. NEW YORK. July 95 -The course of
prices of stork tortsy was ascribed to the
interpretstlon plated on Judge Taft'a speech
of accrptam of tne nomination for presi
dent, of which advance copies have bi en
distributed. Claims of a knowledge of the
contents of the speech were made the basis
for published comments, which were cir
culated today previous to the opening of
the stock market. There was some selling
at the outset on the allegation that the
Rooevelt policies were relierntfcl by the
candidate. A substantial demand developed
at the decline and a material recovery lol
lowed. Profesevd ground for the buying
was the claim that the speech of atcept-e-nce
would he found satisfactory to the
financial world. There waa a renewal of
the feeling of protection for legal rights
of corporations, which msde Its influence
felt with the derision of the appesls court
In the caee Involving the Standard Oil fine.
There was little In the day s news to Indl
cste any change in genersl conditions. The
frsln market reflected contentment with
he crop news. Fresh assurances of the
tdentitude of money supplies wss derived
from the action of the money market.
Money brokers express the view that the
harder tone of time money will scarcely
hold In the face of the 1 per cent rate
for rail money. There have been large ivies
of commercial bills in the foreign ex
change market during the past week In
anticipation of the coming crop movement
and a balance Is thus promised against the
outgo of currency to the interior, which
will soon set In. The advance In prices
became comprehensive and strong, and
the net price change resulting In the hort
session represent an almost complete re
covery of the declines of yesterday. The
bank statement Indicated cash gain In the
report of actual conditions, although It
figured for only about half the amount In
the average. The surplus wan thus In

CATTLE Receipts of cattle this morning
were very light only a doxen loads 4etnr
reported In and nenriv ait t than, imni
to the packers. In other words, there was
nothing of any ronsequenoe offered on sale
and nothing with whloh to make a teht
of the market. For the week the recelDts
show a liberal gain over last week, but a
falling off of about 6,000 head aa compared
with a year ago. The arrlvaJ this week
have consisted DrlnclDallv of runner, hoth
steers and cow, but there has been at the
same time a considerable sprinkling of
corn-fed steers, a few of them very well
finished cattle.
The market on corn-fed beeves of desira
ble quality has shown very little changa
thl week, owing to the fact that the sup
ply of cattle of that description has been
comparatively small every dav. Thu the
irw 1000 cauie received have sold very
readily, and at the clone of ths a,..i u.
market la steady to a little stronger than a
week ago. The best cattle have sold up
as high as 37.70. On the other hand th,.
common to medium grade of half. fat ateers
Eiiuwoo. some weakness on Monday on ac
count of their coming Into direct competi
tion with range cattle, which were lower.
A peculiarity of the run of westrn cattle
Is to be found In the fact that the great
big bulk of the receipts came In on Mon
day, the same as the week before. In con
sequence of the orereupply on that day
the market broke very badly. Later on, as
receipts became lighter, price firmed up,
so that the decline waa recovered before
the end of the week, and the market Is
no safely :0c higher or possibly 10315c
higher than the close of last week. Bar
ring Monday' trade, when the mi.w
oversupplled. the condition of business ha
Zl ln"'y ssuBiaciory all the week.
The flood of cow tuff that arrived her
the first day of the week brought about a
sharp break in prices, but under the In
fluence of a good buvlna demand and mn.t.
erate receipts during latter daya, prices
.... b.ouubiiv lira up, until tne market
Is at the close of the week 1016e higher
than one week ago.
The season Is still too esrlv tn ..nu.i
very much of stockers and feeders, even
i"vj mini mvorsDie conditions. This
season, however, conditions ars not .mi.
aa to encourage early buying for the rea
son that the price of corn i very high
while general business condition are such
as to render would-be feeders rather cau
tlou 4n their operations. Hence It was by
no mean surprising that the trade In
stockers and feeders all last week was
within very narrow limits. A few cattle
were received and sold, but the demand
was by no means urgent, and the tend
ency of values easier, prices at the close
of th week being generally quoted as
much as Kfil5o tower than last week

HOC.S-Hogs were slow today at a decline
of 5410cas compared with vesterday. the
bulk of the hogs selling at 36.20456.26, with a
top up to 86 46. Light mixed hogs, especi

parkers not appearing to want that kind!
Holders as a rule found It very hard to dis
pose of losds of that description.
The receipts for the week show a d

runs, however, the market has shown a
considerable decline ss compared with last

SHEEP There were no fresh receipt of
sheep thl morning upon which to base an
estimate of the market. For the week the
receipts have been very large, showing a
gain of about 10.000 bead aa compared with
the previous week well aa a very heavy
gain over the corresponding week of last
year. Th demand, however, was good on
most days and sufficiently large to e ean
up tb offering of deslraule a,iiir. r Ast
ern markets, however, were decidedly lower
and that fact, together with th liberal re
catrpts, caused a sharp break early In the
week. Lamb broke oa Monday, although
beep remained about gtaady, civslog ityicr.
On Tuesday there wss a sharp break In the
sheep market. Since that day the market
has remslned steady and occasionally a
little stronger. At the close of the week
sheep are around Ift-trXc lower than thev
were last week, while spring laniba. owing
to the fact that they have been In very
much larger supply at all p.Mnts during
the lsst few days have shown a silll
heavier decline, being as much as :jSOe
lower than they were on Friday of last
week, when choice lamha sold a high a
37.00.
In spite of the fact that prices have de
clined consldeishly this week the trade
he nevertheless been In a good healtnv
condition, and aside from the lower prices
entirely satisfactory to selling Interests.
