The corn niarst was strong all day on

Extremely small receipts of live hogs at

CATTLE There was only one car of cat
tle reported in today and notiilr.g whatever
on aaie to make a market. For the week
tne receipts foot up 8,954 head, showing a
falling oil of X.ouO Head aa compared with
tne pieviuus week and ot over 4,0110 head
as evmpared with tne corresponding; week
of a ear ago. ln other woras. the receipts
of cattle nave been the smallest since
Christmas week. While the arrivals have
consisted latgely of leu Block, rango beeves
nave commenced 10 arrive and on aome
days there has been ijiiiu a sprinkling: ot
that kind.
i.igiu receipts at an Bulling points gave
me market a Sharp advance at the be
ginning of the week, prices soaring upward
at a rapid rate, so that on Tuesday beet
steers were quoted y3uc higher tnan at
the close Of the previous weea. with some
sales actually showing even more advance
man mat. mere aoea not appear to be
strength enough, however, in the general
situation to support high prices. No sooner
does the market make a sharp advance
owing, to light receipts than It begins to
decline owing to light buying demand con
sequent upon reduced consumption of meat
products. Thus while the market touched
the high point of the year on Tuesday, cat
tle selling aa high aa $8.10, the advance did
not prove permanent. It eased off slightly
the next day and on Thursday and Friday
went down hill with a ruah. Thua at the
close of the week the market on corn-fed
steers Is around 60c lower than Tuesday,
the high day, which means that all tne ad
vance of the first of the week has been
wiped out and In some cases more, too.
There were grass range cattle here last
week with which to make comparisons, but
they sold on Friday 25c lower than early
In the week. Other markets have ex
perienced a similar drop in values, condi
tions here being by no means different.
Cows and heifers soared upward very
rapidly the first of the week and the ad
vance was well maintained owlne to mod.
erate receipts until Friday. An unusuallv
large run that day. the most of the n-
celpta being cow stuff, enabled buyera to
pound values down to corresnonrl with th.
decline on beef steers. Thus cow stuff on
Friday aold 10816c and in some cases 25c
lower than the first of the week, which
wipes out most of the advance on Monduv
and Tueaday.
Hardly enough stockera and feed era wr.
received during the week to make a real
test of the market, but while there were
very few on aale there were still less
wanted, so that the trade throughout the
week was very slow and dull with an easier
tendency. At the close oneratnrs on the
market are generally quoting prices around
25c lower than last week at least.
Quotations on cattle: Good to chnle
corn-fed steers. $6.Ka7.90: fair to good corn-
fed steers, $5.7506.60; common to fair corn
fed steers, $4 5006 76: good to choice cows

HOGS Hogs sold 10M15C higher (his mim
ing, which means that the most of them
went at $6.406.46, which carries the mar
ket to the highest Doint touched thla v-r
and to the highest point reached s nee Arrli
of last year. The trade could hardly be
called active at the advance, buyers ap
parently disliking to see prices go any
hlgehr and buying the stuff aa It were
under protest. Still there was a fair move
ment and pretty much everything in the
yards had changed hands by 10 o clock in
the morning.
The receipts of hors this weeV h,.
shown a very heavy falling off aa com
pared with the previous week, being the
smallest of any week since the first week
of April. Tltat receipts are lighter this
week haa occasioned no surprise, as a
heavy falling off had been am icinared f,,r
this time, when the farmers are busy not
only with their corn, but with haying snd
harvesting. Moreover, it was generally
supposed that the aupply of marketable
hogi had been verv materially riH,ir..,i
The market throughout the week has beeii
In very satisfactory condition. Whii
prices have fluctuated back and forth to

higher, and at tne close of the week the
market Is right around ,15c higher than it
was at the close of last week.
