Half a hundred lovers of horse racing In
Omaha are preparing to Journey to Te
kamah Thursday to witness the races which
will be held there on that date. Tekamah
has long been recognized as one of the best
horse racing towns In Nebrsska and for
several years has enjoyed a large turnout
to the races which have become an anntial
fixture. The races at Tekamah this year
will be held July IS, 1 and 17, Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday, and should rain In
terfere with the races on any one day tha
program will be run off Saturday. Satur
day afternoon there were 141 harneas horses
on the grounds and fifty runners, with
more expected before the meet opens. Te.
kamah takes a real pride In the very suc
cessful races which are held there each
summer and the whole town takes on a gala
day dress to welcome the strangers who
may come within the gates of the city.
Some most valuable horses will be on
hand, as well as some with low marks.
The officers of the Tekamah organization
are: W. W. Latta, president; J. R. 6uthat
land, secretary, and Ed Latta, treasurer.

NEW YORK, July 11. Saratoga is to
have a race meeting, as usual, this year.
The plans for the meeting wore never
abandoned, but there was a feeling In
some quarters that the association might
try to escape responsibility In view of
the antl-bettlng law. The association,
however, has gamely decided to go
through with Its meeting under slightly
aiteik.'d arrangements. There Will be
eleven days of sport at the spa and pos
sibly more. As Secretary Erlocker says,
the association knows It Is facing a loss;
still. If It doesn't reach stupendous pro
portions, nd the necessary other ar
rangements can be made, the meeting Is
likely to be lengthened beyond the eleven
days planned at prepent. To go on with
the meeting as scheduled the association
had to use the blue incll liberally on
the original stake program. Fifteen
stakes on the flat and four steeplechases
had to be cut out, among them the Great
itenuhllc, the Saratoga handicap, the
Saratoga cup, the merchants' and cltl-
sens handicap, the champion and so on
to the njmher of fifteen. Of these five
w II be refrained under different condi-,
tlons, meaning a reduction In value.
These are the Saratoga spec'al, which
will be worth $1,C00; the merchants' and
