The personal assessment of the Omaha
Water company will remain at ti.5o0.000 for
the next year. After efforts at a compro
mise between those who demanded a td.OOO,
0U assessment and those who favored tak
ing last year's assessment of t3.5OO.0oO had
failed, the Board o( Equalisation adopted
Brunlng's motion to allow the assessment
to stand at 3,COO,0U). Thla motion was
carried, Brunlng, Haverly, Shrlver and
Trainor voting for It and Ure, Kennard and
RIms against it.
Thla vote was taken after Ure'a motion
to raise It to K.OCO.OOO had been voted down,
Ure, Kcrniard and Biggs voting for It and
Brunlng. Haverly, Trainor and Shrlver
against It.
In the committee room the minority pro
posed to compromise by making thf raise

The board followed the action on the
water company's peisonal assessment by a
reapportionment of the tT.ores of the five
municipalities In which It does business.
This was the result of a proteHt by City
Attorney Thompson and It. II. Olmsted of
Florence that that village was not getting
its share of the property for assessment
purposes. According to their statement,
the appraisers who valued the property of
the water company found that about 2S
per cent of it was In Florence. They de

assessment of the company on a one-fifth

board raised the assessment of the Dally
News le.000. This leaves the assesnments
of the three papers us follows: Hee, IM,
075; World-Herald, IM.MO; News. VM.
Over the protests of Brunlng the board
made a reasuessment of the district lying
between Eleventh and Sixteenth streets and
the railroad tracks -and Pierce, reducing
the assessments about X per cent. Bruning
objected to making tho reduction In this
district without Including adjacent property,
but the board was satisfied an Injustice
had been done In the first assessment, and
while admitting that the district should
have been larger, pleaded lack of time
and passed the motion to adopt the re
assessment. The threatened lneresse of land and Im
provement values In Jefferson precinct and
land valut a In Union did not materialize.
Near the end of the night session a mo
tion was passed leaving the assessment ss
it was originally.

the street fiom the division, was also re

The night session of the board lasted until
after 11 o'clock, alien a recess waa taken
until July 7. Last nliiht was the last ses
sion at which changes In assessments could
bn made. The bourd will now adjourn from
day to day until the state board finishes
Its work, when the annual levy will be
made.
