CATTLE RecelDts of cattle ware verv
light again this moraine-, onlv fortv-two
cars being reported In Of this number the
greater part consisted of stuff either
direct to packers or consigned through
wnnout being offered for sale at th Is
point. Thus it happened that there were
really not enough cattle on sale to make
a market, the same as was the case yester
day. For the five days this week the
receipts show a total of 11.752 head, beina
a slight gain over the previous week, and
quite a largo gain over the correspondln.g
weca 01 lasr. year.
There were no beef steers of sny con
sequence on sale this morning, but the few
scattering loads brought what looked like
fully steady prices. For the week strictly
good cattle are all of 60c lower than last
week, when it will be remembered that
the best cattle sold as high as 88.00. On
the other hand the common to . pretty
decent killers are anywhere from 60o to
75c lower than the high time last week.
The decline, as would naturally be ex
pected, has been the most severs on the
expect stockers and feeders to sell as
much as 1526c at least. The feel
ing ia that large receipts of that kind of
cattle would have brought about a de
cidedly lower range of prices.
There were a few scattering loads of
cows and heifers In the yards this morn
ing, which sold at good firm prices, as
compared with yesterday. For the week
cows and heifers have not shown as much
decline as beef steers, but still they are
ZtVgoOc lower than last week. The fact
that the demand for cheaper cow beef has
been quite good has hsd a tendency to
hold the market up, thus preventing such
a slump In values as has taken place In
the case of beef steers.
Blockers end feeders hsve been In light
supply all the week and It Is no easy
matter to tell Just how much lower they
are, but with fat cattle showing such a
sharp break It would only be natural to
expect stockers Is that large receipts of
that kind of cattle would have brought
about a decidedly lower range of prices.
It will be noted from the above that the
break in the cattle market this week has
been unusually heavy, but the downward
movement In values has been common to
all market points and apparently due to a
large falling off In the consumption of
meat products. It would appear that con
sumers are tired of paying the high prices
at which beef has been selling snd In con
sequence have turned their attention to
something else, with the result that
packers have found beef accumulating In
their coolers. The natural result .was to
cause them to limit their buying of live
cattle with the consequent rapid decline
In prices.
Any stock received here on July 4 will
be fed and cared for, but there will be
no market.

For the week the receipts foot Up 43.000

SHEEP Receipts of sheep this morning
were limited to six cars, but in addition
there were several loads of hold-oven, so
that there was a great plenty In the yards.
In fact more than needed, considering the
very moderate demand. Packers did not
appear to be at all anxious for supplies
snd the market was Just as slow and dull
as It has been every other day this week.
A few cars changed hands, but there was
no snap, life or strength to the trade.
The receipts for the week to date amount
to 19.000 head, showing a small decrease as
compared with the last two weeks, but a
gain of 8.018) head as compared with the
same week a year ago. Other niarkot
points have also been very liberally sup
piled and the fact that receipts sre run
ning ahead of a year ago, while the de
mand for the product Is tailing way short,
accounts for the very unsatisfactory condi
tion of the market that has prevailed all
this week. The market at this point has
shown a decline of about 26c fur the week,
but even at the lower prices the demand
has been very small and the trade slow
and dull practically every day.
The prices paid looked 10&15o lower than
yesterday. The same wethers that brought
3360 yesterday sold at 83.40. Lambs at to.VJ
toduy wero the same as brought 86.26 yes
terday. Other sales looked lower In the
same proportion.
