The continued wet weather In Kansas and Nebraska caused strength today . in the local wheat market, the September delivery closing at a net Bain of Tie. Corn was up 4;C, outs were Tv,c higher and provisions were from lOfgiac to 17o higher. . Tha wheat market opened strong on an active auneral d-mand. which before the end of the first hour had forced prices more than cent abov yesterday's close. Sentiment- oontinued bullish throughout the remainder of the day and prices were well . maintained, although at times some rocosalotn occurred on liberal realizing sales. The principal reason for the urgent demand. u the unfavorable weather for harvesting In the southwest. This In fluence waa supplementwl early In the ses sion by the strength of European markets and luler by a lively demand for cash wheat by millers nt the principal grain centers of the country. Dealings in stocks made a new 'low record for the year to duv. the aggregate siles dropping to 1i9.k10 shares. Although the stock exchange will be open for business tomorrow, many mem bers already have l'-f t the city, to prolong their holiday over the end of the week. The dullness normal to the season and to the course of a periodical campaign Is thus decidedly accentuated. There was more show of life In bonds than In stocks and considerable variety was perceptible In that department of the market. The expansion In tlie par value of the bind sales was principally due. how ever, to a large absorption of a few Issues. The Oregon 8hort line 4s, for Instance, came Into active demand at a sharp ad vance and the Fnlted States Sleel sink ing fund's bonds and the new Pennsylvania con sol 4a were strong. The dealing in small lots 1n a variety of other Issues was done at price changes that showed both advances and declines from previous quota tions. This broadening of the bond market must be due to the re-Investment of prof its In course of disbursement and Is the first evidence of such a demand which usually becomes prominent a week or so before a- dlshm-sonr-nt period. The tardi ness of this demand this yeir Is the more notable on account of the plethoric condi tion of the money market and the difficulty of finding employment for Idle funds with well secured bonds offering a markedly higher rate of return than can be had for Interest on loans. The call loans rate dropped hack to 1 per cent today, marking the passing of the short-lived Influence of the July 1 requirement. Money continued to flow to New York, allhouzh the indicated rain this week of less than J4.nco.noa is smaller than In recent weeks. The withdrawal of cash by the trtist companies to meet their Increased re serve requirement probably will result In a decrease In cash foldings In the hank statement. The accumulation of subsidiary silver In the 1'nlted States treasury Is a measure of shrinkage In reta'l business throughout the country. Considering this redundancy of the circulation. It Is a no table fact that a laree number of banks have been Increasing their circulation ac count to 40 per cojt. of their capital, hanks which have reached that point alone being permitted to take out the new emer gency circulation. This is Interpreted as a preparation to avail themselves of the new clrculitlon this fall. Intimations during the day that the expected treasury call for return of $0,nnft.ofl0 deposits would be Im mediately forthcoming- and Its Issuance later made no Impression In view of the surfeited condition of the money market. 1 ne stoeK market itself does not oal for notice. Trading on the Block exchange continued sluggish and uninteresting and values were mostly lower, owing to lack of support. The gilt edge section was cheerful In sympathy with the consols, which were firmer on the hopes that easier money would stimulate Investment buying. Home rails were weak, realizing by tired bulls helping the depres sion. Americans were dull and little busl-J ness doing was entirely professional, fl Prices ranged at above parity, with an up-1 ward tendency. The market closed steady. Canadian Pacific was firm and foreigners were stagnant. BERLIN, July 2. Inghram Lehmer Bros Bodden Totals CATTLE Receipts looked quite large on paper this morning, ioo cars being report in, out or tins number the greater part of them were either direct to packers or lexaa iceuers on ineir way to me: range Thus It happened that while receipts were liberal for Thursday, the actual number offered on the market waa the smallest that It lias been at this time of the week In a long while. In fact there were not enough cattle of any kind to make any semblance of market. The steady fall of rain during the forenoon kept every one out of the yards excepting tho few. who had cattle so that it looked more Ilk Saturday than Thursday. As usual when there Is so little stuff on sale there was no snap or life and it was hardly possible to quote anything more than a, nominal market. As noted yesterday prices on all kinds of killing cattle even the very best are fully 6oc lower than the close of last week and some kinds of warmed up and half fat cattle that come Into competition with the cheaper grassers would possibly show more decline even than that. Hardly enough feeding cattle have besn received this week to make a test of the market and hence prices have not show so much change, but there Is no question but what cattlo of that description would sell very much lower In sympathy with the beef market If any great number were to be ottered on the market. S 07V, SHEEP Receipts this morning were very large, for Thursday twenty-three cars be ing reported in. Included among the ar rivals were nine cars of Idaho rangers, part of them lambs of very good quality and the first to arrive this season from the range. Thero were also a few lots of pretty decent cornfed sheep, but there was a liberal showing of trash. There were quite a good many old thin ewes with small lambs by their sides. Advices Irom tne eastern mutton market contlnuo very dis couraging to packers, with the result that the demand Tor live sheep and 1 an ids con tinues extremely slow and dull. A buyer remarked that It was almost impossible, the way mutton Is selling In the east, to buy anything on the market that will kill at a profit. An air of uncertainty sur rounds the trade and no one seems to know exactly what to do or where he Is at. Hence the market, not only here, but at all points continues to drag and weaken off day after day, with no apparent sign of Immediate relief. This morning passed with almost no business doing and it was well along toward midday lefore enough sheep or lambs had changed hands to make nnvthinir like a market. Now and then a load or two would change hands, but st rriees that were lfKif,15c lower than yesterday.
