the start and this caused Blight recessions
In prices, but the market soon recovered
from this setback and continued strong the
remainder of tne easlon. An advance at

CATTLE Receipts of catito at ibis point
were light aain today, the run tof the
week beli small as compared with pre
vious weeks. While a good share of the
arrivals consisted of corn-fed beeves, them
was quite a sprinkling ot cow stuff in
cluding a train of grassers from the Sand
hills.
The dullness and weakness of the market
yesterday and the day before waa con
tinued today, in fact, today s market waa.
if anything, the most satisfactory of the
week so far. It was very apparent that
buyers had all made up their minds to take
off another good slice, and they accordingly
hung back. Other market points reported
substantial declines which helped to weaken
the local market, and, in the end, sales
men were forced to take off another lOfliic
if not more. Whil" it ia difficult to say
Just how much Iuvwt the market Is from
day to tay, taking the week as a whole, It
is plainly 60c lower. The sams cattle that
brought 3X 0O on. Thursday of last week and
$7.50 yesterday, sold today at 37.40, which
will show that the decline is not limited
to the common and medium grades, but
that the top cattle are suffering fully as
much as any other kind.
There were not far from twenty-five or
thirty cars of cows and heifers on sale
this morning. The market, however, was
Just as slow and dull as the steer market,
and at least 60c lower for the week.
There were only a few scattering loads of
stockers and feeders in the yards and they
did not show so very much change on ac
count of there being a few on sale.

HOGS Receipts of hogs were large this
morning, 167 cars being reported In, whllo
other market points also had good runs.
The market wajt the slowest and dullest
and the latest of any experienced at thla !
point In a long lime. Fortunately there ;
were some quite llneral shipping orders in
hand and buyers for that account opened
the market and they succeeded In securing
quite a string at prices thst were 5c and
possibly (fill lower than yesterday. Pack
ers held back, not trying to do anything
even at the decline until shippers had their
orders filled and then they pounded the
market down to a point that was fully 10c
lower tnan yesterday. This 'means that
the hogs sold largely at $5 90)6.96 and on up
to $V..f0 for the test kinds.

of It trash. Old thin ewes and spring lambs
were in very liberal supply. In fact there

Scarce.
The market did not show any very great
change as compared With yesterday. As I
matter of fact the trade was slow and verj
dull throughout, but good killers generallj
commanded about steady prices, while com
mon kinds were hard to move. Advices front
other selling points were by no means re
assuring and packers' orders did not appeal
to be very urgent. The general situation
remains about the same as already noted
In these nolumna, the market on both shecf
and lambs being everywhere dull and weak
owing to the limited consuming demand foi
the product.
