Omaha, t; Sioux City. 1.
The Stoux scalped the entlrs Hourfca
family Thursday, trying, apparently, to
even up for the defeat Bandera handed
them the day before. It was "di-uralsta
day" at the. park, and Fa wanted so much
to win because of the distinguished com
pany he had. but It was not in the cards.
Ducky had blood In his eye and not only
kept his team keyed up to the, finish, but
played a great game himself, pulling down
four long files, a miss of any ane of (which
might have been disastrous.
Hollenbeck waa to hava pltcaed the
game. It waa bis turn, but afterfwirming
up both Hall and Hollenbeck,. Captain
r"ranck sent Hall to tha hilltop. It waa
iot altogether his fault that the. game waa
lost, for hs held tha Sioux to two runs,
but tha players back of him could not
make good with the stick.
Bright Starr waa In the box for tha
Sioux and hs held out to the finish, pitch
ing ntce'toall. He has gained a reputa
tion of being quite a twlrler for about
seven Innings, and then he Is usually
pulled out to make room for someone who
might possibly save the game. Ducky
waa afraid of that yesterday and after
the sixth inning he kept Freeman con
tinually warmed up ready to go In. Bright
refused to weaken, however, and played
the string out. In tha eighth Inning, with
two out. Householder hit one off hl
shoestrings to Severeld. The ball was a
little too lively for the lengthy first
sacker to handle and Householder was
safe. Welch followed with another single

The Sioux had on their war oalnt and
went after the game from the call of
time. Campbell hit a corker to left for
two sacks and the Iowa druggists srtood
snd yelled. Ducky sacrificed him to third
and the Omaha druggists groaned. Weed
hit a long fly -to Welcn and the Omaha
druggists were quiet, for Campbell scored.
Omaha started the Inning In the very
same way. s Austin hit a long fly over
Campbell's head and the ball bounded
against the fence,' within a foot of going
over. Austin took two. But there the
similarity ceased, for King failed to sac
rifice. Autrey grounded out and- all re
liance was placed on Householder to get
back that lead of th Sioux, but tha big
left fielder threw his friends Jown by
striking out. This was the nearest chanca
Omaha had to scoring.
The Indians made another in the second
Inning before Hall settled down to real
aslness. but after that they dldnt need
any. It was not an Han i lauit, euner,
for he had rotten support. With one out
Sioux City Welch singled and Belden
booted the ball around until ha reached
second base. Severeld hit one to Dr.
Welch, who also joined the error col
umn and Sioux City Welch trotted home.
Bloux City filled the bases In the sev
enth Inning on two singles and a walk.
Gooding threw td first to catcU Camp
bell napping, but Autrey muffed the ball.
He ran after It and fell down. In tha
meanwhile Granville was scooting from
third to home, but from his sitting posture
Autrey threw the ball and nailed him at
the plate. Chicken pulled off another

to the spites of Newry no better Irishman
ever lived than Colonel Flnerty. He was

I have been watching with greet Interest
the proceedings of the great convention
which is meeting In your city. I hava been
struck by a good many things about It.
I did not write an account of your govern
ment and institutions without having paid
several visits to this country, but It never
was my good fortune to see a national
convention. This machinery of conventions,
as you hava It in this country. Is the most
complete, full recognition of the rights of
the people to which any country has at
tained, becauae people not only at elections
aay who ahall be their officials, but In
these party conventions they determine
upon men who ought to be put forward as
the representatlvea of parties.
Let me express on behalf cf every Eng
lishman, who la proud that from his coun
try came those principles of sell govern
ment which you are spplylng here, the Jiope
that the same sense of the pre-eminent Im
portance of maintaining these cardinal prln
clplea of good government may In the
Lnlted States, to be an example to all
other countries, forever flourish and
abound.
