T NEWS OF THE BUSY HOME BUILDERS SO SLACK IN HOME BUILDING Substantial Growth on Basis of Heal Value Insures Investments. AQUATIC BASIN FOR LAWNS IVovrl Ida Workrd Oat fa t llont Near FlrH Clafc la claries Fand far Water riaata. Continued buiynon In th realm of the fcullder of homo In Omaha la th feature of the day. Calmly the builder of home ra going forward with their work and architects, contractor! and artisans are oc cupied to the full extent of their time. The records of the building; Inspector re flect the generally proiroua conditions, and the monthly report of building opera tion In the lending cities of the country Is o flattering to Daino Omaha that she really la In danger of getting so "stuck on tiersclf" that she will swfll up and refuse to look at her sister cities. For while some of them seem to have spent all their money on clothes last year and this year are without very fat bank accounts, Omaha la Improving In looks and seems to have more money to spend than ever before. "A feature of th present situation In Omaha." said a leading real estate man who builds homes for sale, "la the absence of fictitious value. Twenty year ago property In mot part of the city w higher In prire than It I today, though It la now worth four time what It waa then. At that time It price waa baaed on expec tation and those expectation could not be realised for many year. Thus the prop erty was at boom price for a long time. Today It Is settled down on the firm basl of the commercial prosperity and the aound foundation of Omaha' rapid growth and recognized business standing. It 1 the ol Idest Investment, just a solid a farm land. The man who builds a house on a lot In Omaha and has It Insured I a secure from loss a It Is possible to be In the world. And hi chance for a substantial gain within a few year are extremely favor, able." Something different from the common run of building and laying out of grounds Is to be seen In the yard of a house being ' THE DEMAND FOR LOANS by members of this Association, who are build ing or buying homes, is so great that we now uced more savers. If you become a saver with us, your money is loaned to your fellow members and secured by their homes. Our plan offers a safe and profitable irivest ment for systematic saving. We add dividends every six months. You" can withdraw at any time on" 30 days' notice. Our literature is free for asking. OMAHA LOAfl AND BUILDING ASSOCIATION S. E. Corner 16th and Dodge Streets. O. M. Nattinger, Secy. W. R. Adair, Asst. Secy. completed near the Field club. It Is nothing less than a pool of water In the center of a spacious yard which surrounds the hotis. The pool I constructed of concrete and Its curb comes only about three Inches above the greensward of the lawn. It la about twenty by twenty-eight feet In slse and when filled will have water of only slight depth. Its owner Intend to stock It with several varieties of water planta and with a few fish. The beauties of an ornament of this kind In a well kept yard are apparent at once. The water will come from a city water pipe and will be allowed to escape lowly through several hole In th bottom. And even this drain water la to be directed to good use by the thrifty owner, for It will leak directly where the roots of the tree which are to surround the pool will get It and thus a very tropical growth Is expected to materialize oon. The pool 1 omething which will' add charm and variety to any yard and Is a source of coolness and of In terest through th heat of summer. "Outside furnishings are Just as Impor tant to the beauty of a home as the furni ture of the Inside of the house," said a young Omaha architect. "By outalde fur nishings I mean the furniture which Is put Into th yard or the grounds that surround the house. And the beauty of this furni ture I that It I cheap and grow more beautiful with age. The poor man doesn't have the Installment man calling around every few day for the payment on the furniture and the rich man doesn't have to worry about the furniture being scratched up. Nature constructs the 'outlsed furnish; Ings' In her own Inimitably beautiful man ner and the man or woman who does not appreciate the beauties of trees and bushes and flowers about the bouse Is woefully lacking. There are a hundred varieties of flowers which will grow In this climate and make a mere house a very bower of beauty If people have only the aense and foresight to plant them and give them a modicum of care." Down on the peaceful shore of Lake Cut off two cities are growing. A Rome and Carthage vied with each other for glory and greatness upon opposite shores of -the Mediterranean sea, so ar Bungaloo City and the City of Rod and Oun club vtelng one with the other for' size and beauty to ,day. A dozen new cottages have been built and are under construction In each of the fresh alr camp this spring and summer. On what was but a barren waste a few years ago here I now a population of a considerable number of people. And as the cities grow In size they grow In magnifi cence. The first settlers, the pioneers, were satisfied with mere shanties, but the houses which are being built now are sub stantial dwellings. During the summer months they are used entirely by their owners, who remain there continuously from May to September and sometime later. fylachinE'sis and woodworkers Electric motors are particularly applicable for the operation of wood working tools, because euch tools s a rule require high speed. Grant, Jr., San Dleiro, Cal Statement Made by the Tele- phone Company to Protect the Pub lic front Buying: Stolen Property. Several months ago S40.0CO worth of bonds of the Independent Telephone company of Omaha were stolen from U. S. Grant, Jr., by parties In Los Angeles. ' fiver since that time Mr. h-ant has endeavored to locate the bonds, but as soon as he would get on track of them thry would be spirited away. For some time past the bonds have been offered In Omaha at ridiculously low prices, ranging- frorn 65 to 85 cents on the dollar. These low prices were made be cause stolen property may be sold at any price and still show a nice profit. . This week $26,009 cf these bond appeared In Kansas City and Omaha parties made an offer for them, not knowing that the title waa not good. Tfle Kansas City peo ple were Instructed to ship the bond to Omaha in care of the First National bank. This was doife, but prior to their arrival suspicion had been aroused to such an ex tent that a telegram waa sent to Mr. Grant andhe In turn notified his attorney to re plevin them If they turned out to hi hj. When the bonds arrived at the bank the sheriff at once 1 2 vied on them and took them into his possession.. The bonds are now in safe keeping and will be held until the termination of the suit. The First . National bank has not been sued for any damages, as was Mated In the paper, and had no knowledge that the bond were even shipped to them until they arrived. They have acted only in the best of faith throughout the whole transaction. Of the $40,000 that was stolen there I 116,000 still unaccounted for and we wish to advise the public to use great car In purchasing our bonds from unknown- par ties, unless they can show an absolutely clear title, aa Mr. Grant will replevin his wherever found. INDEPENDENT TELEPHONE CO. Darin Surgical Operation. ' Among recent wonderful surgical op erations Is one of a most daring and un usual nature. An Idiot. years old, the daughter of a resident of Berlin, has been converted Into an Intelligent being by the process of grafting part of the mother's thyroid gland upon the child' pancreas In more popular language, this mean that part of the mother throat has been transferred by the grafting process to a gland, or tissue, lying directly at the back of the stomach. The operation was car ried out by Dr. Carl Garre, a German sur geon, whose success In the transplanting of organs from one animal to another and even from the lower animals to huimn beings, has attracted wide attention.
