The Methodist hospital had occupied tne old. antiquated building on Twentieth, near Harney, for something like fifteen years, and It had long since outgTown its actual utility for the purpose to which It was devoted. The building waa originally a dwelling, and then was bought by Uie Methodists and converted Into a hospital. The new hospital might have been In operation long ago, but for the determina tion on the part of the builders to go Into it free of debt of possible. Rev. John J. McLaughlin, correspondlna; secretary of the hospital, says the I.W.000 which the build Ing has coat, will be practically paid, th only deficit being due to the fact that, as usual, there is some contraction in pledges and some donors changed their minds and decided to contribute toward an endow ment fund. The services were held In the main vestibule, which was crowded almost to suffocstion with Interested spt-c-tators. Many were unable to secure even a "view point," and contented themselves were charmingly adorned with smllax and flowers, and on each of the five floors re freshments of frultsde and wafers were served tn abundance. The program opened with a brief address by Chairman Gosa, who stated that the announcement that he was to make an address waa prematura and he entered a plea of not guilty. "If any one of you have come hare today with the expectation of hearing me make an ad dress," said he, "and I Infer that this large audience haa been Induced to come on that account, you are at liberty to retire now to avoid disappointment.-" Pauaing for a moment or two for such as were disposed to retire to do so. and aa none were inclined to do so, the services were opened with a hymn by the First Methodist Episcopal church choir under the leadership of Mr. John Mullen. The Invocation was delivered by Rev. F. T. Rouse of the First Congregational church, and the responsive scripture reading was led by Rev. R. Scott Hyde of Hanscom Park Methodist Episco pal church. Elisabeth Kurts. Bessie Staple ton, Phyllis Sparhawk. Martha DuBoiae, May ferns. Bertha O'Banion, Eva ' Rogers and Lydia Jensen. The presenta tion of diplomas to the class was mide by Rev. William Gorst. The doxology and the benediction by Bishop Warren closed the program. The visitors were then asked to make an Inspection of the hospital and avail themeselves of the refreshments pravlded. The new hospitsl contains about seventy five rooms, with accommodations) for lin patients. The traffic committee ef the Commercial club has agreed to the proposition of the railroad coinpaniea in Omaha to keep alC freight depots for receiving merchandise for shipment until 4 each afternoon. Th railroads formerly closed earlier, .with the exception of the Northwestern and Illinois Central, which have maintained th 4 S closing hour because their depot were set as convenient as thers.
