GRAHAM, AUTREY BIG NOISE
Together with Austin They Do Things

Defeat at Heads ef
nrisslles.
Omaha, t; Denver, 2.
Oeorge Graham played his first regular
game of the year for Omaha yesterday,
and ha signalised his advent and recovery
from a strained knee by doing a remark
able day's work. Closely folloerlrig him was
Chicken Autrey, who also follows him In
the batting order. Each of these two youths
drew one pass and made three hits; Gra
ham making two runs and Autrey one.
Graham was given a rousing reception
and he won further plaudits every time he
came to bat. Although he has discarded
his limp, he has not the speed of last
year and Is not so fast on the bases, but
that speed will return In time. Hs oovered
ground with his old-time vigor and put up
a grand game of ball.
L Look at the record of Graham and Autrey
for tha day:
AB. R. H. O. A. E.
Graham S 2 4 1 0
Autrey S 1 11 0 1
These two made six hits out ot eight
made by Omaha. The other two hits con
sisted of a bunt, which Austin beat out, and
a liner, which Welch drove so swiftly past
Bohsnnon that he had to duck or lose
soma part of his anatomy.
Austin was Johnny-on-the-spot at all
times, and, although ha made but one hit,
he reached first another time on an error,
and scored both times. In the sixth Inning
he scooted from first to third on a single
by Graham, and than ha and Graham exe
cuted a double steal. In tha seventh Inning
hs reached first oti the aforesaid bunt.
and then came all tha way home on a
single by Graham, which Is soma base run
ning for a boy. In alt three Instances he
had to make a long slide and won all three
decisions.
Ho Hew beck There, Toe),
To Austin, Graham and Autrey belong
tha credit for getting the runs whloh won
the game, but to Hollenbeck will have to
go a great deal of credit for keeping Den
ver from scoring enough runs to win It
back again. Hollenbeck had a bad Inning
to start wrth, and It was not all his fault
either, for two bad errors were made In
the first, which were about enough to
discourage any player, but Holly stuck It
out and held the Grlsslles by a tighter rein
than Adams hsd held the champions the
day before. All the scooping done by Den
ver was marked up against the first in
ning, for after that Holly had things all
hla own way. For six Innings not a hit was
made, but In tha seventh, with two out,
White got In a Texas leaguer which was
followed by a liner from Irwin's bat. It
went Just out of reach ot Captain Franck.
but no harm was done, as McDonough flew
out to Welch,
But to get back to that first Inning. It
started bad enough, for Waldron opened
up with a triple down the left foul line.
I. Belden drove one t Austin, who held
Waldron on third, but threw wild to first.
so that Belden was safe. Csssady grounded
out. White walked and the bases were
filled, with one out. Gooding threw to
first to catch White, leading off too far,
but Autrey dropped the ball and Waldron
scored. Irwin flew out to W. Belden and
I. Belden scored on the throw. That was
all. Den ver mads Ja the game, i '

. Llaertles Takes with Bokaaaoa. f
Omaha took liberties with Pat Bohannon
during three different Innings and five
runs resulted. In the fourth Inning Gra
ham was the first man up and ha drew a
pass. Ha had hit a double In the first In
ning, but could not cash It In. Autrey hit
for two and Grand Island went to third.
Householder drove a long fly to Waldron,
who had planted himself almost out to the
Stors sign to lay for the hlt snd Graham
scored. Autrey came home On Welch's hard
liner past Pat Bohannon,
With two out In the fifth Inning, Austin
reached first on an error by Lauterbom,
went to third on Graham's single and then
hs and Georgre executed that double steal.
Autrey was the next man up and ha had
compassion on Graham and his lame knee,
so hs hit the ball so far Into right field
that Graham could almost walk home.
Austin made the run of his life In the
seventh Inning. He had beat out a bunt.
and then, when Graham hit a high one to
left field, he finished the circuit of the
bases. Graham was able to take but one
base, while Austin went three.
Graham had his eye with him yesterday,
and If the work Is any criterion of what
he Intends to do the balance of the season
the opponents will have to ginger up some.
On his second time up Pat had two strikes
and no balls on Oeorge, but eagle eye
stuck for the big show and drew a pass.
He now leads the Western league In bat
ting. HI friends say he will he able to
speed up (on bases as soon as he plays a
couple of games to get his muscles lim
bered up.
The ssme tesms play this afternoon.
Captain Franck ssld Hall would be In
