CATTLE Receipts of cuitl wers light
this morning as compared wiiu a week a-so,
and a year ago. there txliig a falling oil
of over one-half. At th soino time, Uierat
was a great plenty to supply the require
ments of the market, tlio demand being
rone too urgent. .
Buyers of beef steers were out in the
yards in pretty good cason in tha morn
ing, and tiiey plcaed up a tew of the moat
desirable cattle at steady prices. , One
bunch of very choice, well finished beeves
that sold a week ggo at 3676 brought 390
too ay. ine market using on mat particular
lot 16c higher. Aside from the few of the
very best cattla, however, the market was
slow and lower. It would be well tor ship
pers to thoroughly understand that the
commoner klnda of cattle, such aa come
Into competition with the low priced south
ern Texas cattle, are suffering severely,
many of them 4uc lower than a week ago.
The best dry-lot rows and heifers did not
show very much change, as compared with
Saturday, but the medium to common
kinds, which were so much lower last
week, were again alow and very weak
today. Buyers did not seem to care very
much for them, and they were more or
less neglected throughout. The reason for
inia is to be found in the increasing sup
ply of cheap southern Texas cows, which
ars coming very freely to all the southern
markets and ar also finding their way
astward.
Te aunoly if both stocksrs and feedara
was very light, and for that reason the
market did not show very much change.
There la a complaint at all market point
of the lack of a good buying demand from
the country. Just what the reason la can
not be explained very readily, but the fact
remain that the country at the present
time I not a free buyer of either stock
cattle or feeder. ' i

waa active at an advance of Ml 10c over last
week s close, i ne most oi me nogs soiu
In very aood season In the morning at the
advance noted, the bulk going at $5.27ij)
6.82 kith a top at 36.35. It will be remem
bered that on Saturday the bulk went at
8a.20ft6.2u, with a top at 36.30.
SHEEP Th -re waa a liberal supply of
lambs this morning, the receipts consisting
largely of that kind. While some or triem
were poor and on the feeder order tlicre
was a liberal sprinkling of pretty decent
stuff. Cnfortunstely the demand was ex
tremely light. Buyers did not seem to cara
for very tifany end to make the situation
still worse Chicago reported the market at
that point a. opening very dull and decid
edly lower. A. a re.ult the market here
wa. a drag from start to finish, with buy
er, demanding a concession of 20c on most
of ths stuff.
It would be well for sheep men to under
stand that the market at this point Is not
the only one showing a big decline with
