Tha receipts this week have been very light, showing a heavy falling off as com pared with last week and a tlll heavier decrease as compared with a year ago. While there has been a sprinkling: of all kind of cattle corn-fed beeves have been In the majority, constituting a very large proportion of the total arrivals. As the season advances the quality of the catll is Improving, so that more good heavy cattle have been seen in tho yards of late than was the case a few weeks ago. The week started out with a big- boom In beef steer prices. The market on Monday was not only decidedly higher, but as very active. It appeared later on In the week, however, that the buying strength was pretty well exhausted on Monday. From that day on prices tended steadily downward, so that all th advance tras wiped out and more too. The demind throughout the week was the best for the light and medium weight steers of good quality, and at the close of the week they are not very much different as regard price from what they were one week ago On the otreer hand a decrease In tho de mand for shipping and export account caused heavy cattle to be more or less neglected, with the result that they not only lost all of the advance of Monday, but at th close of the week' ar 104 15o lower than one week go. Receipts of cow and heifers were very moderate all th week, there being no sur plus on any one day. In consequence of this good killer sold freely, with no great change In prices, the market at the close of the week being about where It was on week ago. The demand fory stockers and feeder was disappointing all the week. The re suit was that the trade lacked snap ahd still price so far a the good kinds w4r concerned did not show very much chanAV. Light stock cattle were extremely hrd to move all the week and In consequence the feeling was wetk on anything of that de scription. Quotations on rattle: Oood to choice corn-fed steers, $6.26,a686; fair to good corn-fed steers, $6,7546.25; common to fair corn-fed steers, 3S.0irti6.76: good to choice cows end heifer, $4.8536.86: fair to good cow and heifer. $3.7604.86; common to fair cow and heifers, $2.0O8.7f; good ta choice atocker and feeder. $4.76. 26: fair to good itockera and feeder. 14.004 75; common to fair atocker and feeder. $3.00 04.00. - . ... HOGS-Hog opened fully 6c higher thl morning, with shipper very free buyer, but with some of th packers at least hold ing back. Th big bulk of the deslrablo loads, that i th kind that shipper could use, changed hand in good season In th morning at the advance noted. Such hogs told largely at $6.70436.7, and on up to $5.86 for the tops. It will be remembered that yesterday the bulk of the hog went t $6.6&$6.70, with the long string t $5.65 and the top at $5.75. As shippers filled their orders and dropped out, the market eased off, closing with the most of th ad vance being pretty well wiped out. It would bo well for shippers to take note of th way extra heavy hog ar selling. Buy ers at this point do not seem to car for hog of excessive weight, weighing around 600 pounds, and such are very much neglected. Some hog of that description, although of pretty good quality, had to ell a low as $6.26 thl morning, or 60c under the market for regular weight. The receipt of hogs this week, while showing a gain over last week, are atlll short of the record of a year ago. Price have fluctuated back and forth with con siderable rapidity. Thu the week started out with a good, sharp advance, but on Wednesday prices started downward, reaching the low point on Friday. Today's advance leaves th market Just about where It was at th close of last week. . A. k. Pr. Na. A v. k. ft. 17 4M W Ik 124 I TtS 64 11 ... i 41 Ut ... 6 TH, 93 174 0 6 t 71 117 ... Th receipt thl week have been very mrderate, allowing a large decrease, as compared with last week, and a still heavier loss a compared with the corresponding week of a year ago. The, market throughout th week wa entirely against th selling interests. Th break In eastern market has brought on a sharp decline at all selling points, and at the close of th week prices ar on an average too lower than they were on week ago. Thia la true of both sheep and lamb, which bav Buffered in about equal propor tion. Unsettled business conditions at eastern consuming points, which have rut down the demand for high priced mutton aud at the same time the rapid marketing of Colorado lambs have been undoubtedly responsible to a large extent for the heavy shrinkage in the msrket. The Colorsdo method of marketing lamb result almost every year In breaking the market tern, porarfly at least snd tn rsislng sheepmen a heavy loss. Instead of holding their lambs tt home until finished and then ending them forward a few trains at a tlm direct to market, thev ehlp to eastern feeding and shearing stations, stopping at th market at different point enroute, where they re each tlm counted, thu helping to swell trie receipt and to make It appear that th cohntry is full of lamb. The lamb ar held at the big selling sta tions, where their number act as a con stant bear influence on th market. Hence the market may now be d-nbed as ut tering from It annual Colorado break.
