The wheat market was tight, with value
nervous but atrong. Offering were very
light and commission house favored the

Corn opened strung end worked higher
on the strength In wheat and improved
demand. Cash offerings light and receipt
gradually falling off. May corn opened at

gralna and atrong bid for cash grain.
May option opened at 60c and closed at doc.
Pilmary wheat receipt were 212,010 bush
els and slnpmenta wer 215.0"0 bushels,
tigalnst receipt last year of (174.000 bushels

ceipt last year of 463,000 bushel and ship

The wheat market was strong all day,
the May delivery showing the greatest
itretifcth owing to tho apparently congested
condition of that option. The principal bul
lish Inllucmce was. the dry weather. In the
southwest, the drouth stric ken parts of Kan
sas and Nebraska being reported still with
out rain. The smallness of the primary
movement, however, was also an Important
factor. Total receipts today at all primary
points were onlv 24.1.00) bushel com pa red
with 674.0.0 bushels, the corresponding
day a year bro. Bull leaders and aborts
were active bidders for wheat tho greater

were 169 car.
Provisions were firm, because of the
strength of grain and because of a 5o ad
vance, in live hogs. Trade was of small
proportions. At the close May pork wa

18.37V. Ribs were 2VC higher, at f7.2i7.22H.
Estimated receipts for Monday: wheat,

fessed reason for the volatile rise In that
group wa the advantage to accrue to the
traction companies by absolution through
Judicial decision from the obligation to
aupply transfers between the Third ave
nue and the old Motropolltal Street Rail
way lines. Consolidated gas wa brought
Into movement by the action on the part
of the company to obtain release of the
funds tied up In the hand of the court
out of the charge In exces of tha 80
cent rate, the enforcement of which ha
been successfully contested in the courts.
The bonds of the comoanles shared with
th stocks In the wide advance. This move
ment had failed of sympathetic effect on
the general list, which was Inclined to sag.
The selling waa moderate, but there wa
no Important demand to offset It. Copper
securities suffered from some positive de
pression on account of the rontlnued de
cline in the price of the metal. A special

was the resale from China to ninw pec
ulative holdings of copper bought pre

CATTLB Only two cars of cattle were
reported In this morning, which means that
there was the usual Saturday's holiday in
the cattle division. .
The receipts this week have been very
light, showing a heavy falling off as com
pared with last week and a still heavier
decrease as compared with a year ago.
While there has been a sprinkling of all
kinds of csttle corn-fed beeves have been
In the majority, constituting a very large
proportion of the totil arrivals. As the
season advances the quality of the cattle
la Improving, so that moro good heavy
cattle have been seen tn tho yards of late
than waa the case a few weeks ago.
The week started out with a big boom In
beef steer prices. The market on Monday
was not only decidedly higher, but was
very active. It appeared later on In the
week, however, tnat the buying strength
was pretty well exhausted on Monday.
From that day on prices tended steadily
downward, ao that all the advance was
wiped out and more too. The demand
throughout the week was the best for the
light and medium weight steers of good
quality, and at the close of the week they
are not very much different as regards
price from what "they were one week ago.
On the other hand a decrease In the de
mand for shipping and export account
caused heavy cattle to be more or less
neglected, with the result that they not
only lost all of the advance of Monday,
but at th close of the week are 10&15c
lower than one week ago.
Receipts of cows and heifers were very
moderate all the week, there being no sur
plus on any one day. In consequence of
this good killers sold freely, with no great
change In prices, the market at the close
of the week being about where it was one
week ago. '
The demand for stockers and feeders
was disappointing all the week. The re
stilt waa that the trade lacked snnp and
still prices so far as the good kinds were
concerned did not show very much change.
Light slock cattle were extremely hard to
move all the week, and in consequence .the
feeling was week on anything of that de
scription. )

HOG8 Hog opened fully 6c higher this
morning, with shippers very free buyers,
but with some of the packer at least hold
ing back. The big bulk ot the desirable
loads, that Is the kind that shippers could
use, changed handa in good season In the
morning at the advance noted. Such hogs
sold largely at f6.7ttejG.7S and on up to
t6.85 for tha tops. It will be remembered
1 that yesterday th bulk of the hog went
at f6.6fxjj6.70. with the long string at 16.66
and the top at f.7.75. As shippers filled
their orders and dropped out, the markt
eased off, closing with the most of the ad
vance being pretty well wiped out. It
would b well for shippers to take note of
tha way extra heavy hogs are selling. Buy
era at this point do not seem to care for
hogs of excessive weights, weighing around
600 pounds, and such are very much
neglected. Some hog of that description,
although of pretty good quality, had to sell
low a f5.2i this morning, or Hue under
the market for regular weights.
The receipt of hog thl week, while
showing a gain over last wcek, are still
short of the record of a year ago. Prices
have fluctuated back and forth with con
siderable rapidity. Thus the week started
out with a good, sharp advance, but on
Wednesday prices started downward,
reaching the low point on Friday. Today's
advance leaves the market Just about
where It was at th close of last week.
