BOWLERS Wl.ND IT WITH FEAST
Pleasant Final of Commercial
League Seasosi.
Nearly 101 knights of the "strikes and
spares," members and friends of the teams
comprising the Commercial Howling league
of the city, assembled at the Her Grand
hotel Thursday evening to offer congralu
lutlon8 to the winners of championships,
both team and Individual, of the season of
1D07-8, and also to partake of the bounti
ful supply ot eatables and drinkables
served at the second annual banquet of
the league.
During the consumption of the palatable
food and the various other refreshments
and cigars everyone forgot thut the gal
lant Grotte "fouled" on the "fifth" and
Mahoncy "split" his last one with the
president. After the serving of the elabo
rate menu and while those present were
bowling In the realm of Frau Nicotlna,
President Waleni In bis opening address
predicted a flattering future for the bowl
ing game.
Owing to the absence of George Fox,
donor of the league pennant, who was to
present the same to the Omaha Bicycle
(earn, winner of the league championship,
the presentation speech was made by
President Walens and accepted by Sam
Boord of the winning team.
Carl Relter, the genial manager of the
Orpheum, was present and In his inimitable
manner convulsed the banqueters with a
number of humorous stories.
A handsome silver loving cup, donated
to the bowler of the highest Individual
average, was won by President Walena
and presented by the donor. D. J. O'Brien,
In a neat manner. To possess the cup
permanently It has to be won three times
by one man.
J. J. Berger, city bowling champion, was
presented with a handsome diamond ring,
donated by Fred Brodegaard, and W. A.
Keyt, the proprietor of the Metropolitan
Bowling alleys, on which all t he league
games was played, was presented with a
handsome pair of cuff buttons by the
members of the various teams.
During the course of the banquet and

WHITE SOX TAKE FIRST ONE
Householder Mak His Initial Bow
and Catches On with Fans.
HITS TWICE FOR THREE BASES
I. ark of Training of Omaha Pitchers,
Who Are Too Free stllh Passes,
Cnapled rlth Errors, Gives
Gam to t hlcago.
Pa proved himself a veritable David
llarum when he traded Big Gus Thompaon
for Householder. This was clearly dem
onstrated Friday afternoon at Vinton street
park In the first Sox game, when House
holder landed on the ball for two three
sackers and caught everything which came
his way and showed that he la a ball
player and a valuable acquisition to the
team. Chicago won, S to 2.
The advantage of spring training In a
warmer clime showed clearly In the better
condition of the Chicago men, who woiked
like clockwork, especially the pitchers, who
did not pass a man, while the Omaha slab
artists passed six and lilt three men.
Ta used three pitchers and Conilskey
used two, sending the veteran Flene In lo
hold down the game as soon as Nelson
showed signs of tiring. Rltzman started
the work for Fa and pitched a
umgnlflcent game, holding the Sox without
a hit for three Innings and allowing but
one in the fourth. Hall was then sent
In to work out and the cold weather of
the last werk told heavily on the slim one,
for he had no control whatever and passed
and hit men In the seventh Inning until
two runs were made on one lilt. He had
held them safe for two Innings and then
went to pieces. Mets. took his place In the
eighth Inning and he started the same as
Hall had started the seventh, by passing
the first man up and hitting the second,
llonseholder Makes Good.
High hope was held by the fans for a
time that the game might be annexed, as
a good starter on the season, but It was not
to be. After the Sox had been blanked In
the Initial round, with two out, Autrey
stung a, fast one . between Lee Qulllln and
Big John Anderson, formerly of Washing
ton. D. C. Then Householder made his
bow. The result was that bad It not been
for the Storx sign the ball might have been
rolling yet. As It was Tip O'Neill was able
to field it back In time to atop House
holder on third. Chick had. of course,
scored.
Thus It was until the fourth, when with
two out and Purtell on third as the result
of a triple, Welch dropped one he should
have held and the score was tied. The tie
held good until Hall went up In the
seventh, when two runs were scored and
three more were added on Metx's wild work
in the eighth.
Purtell did some star work for the Sox
and Hub Hart caught a foul after a hard
run. Belden and Welch made two errors
for Omaha.
More pitchers will be tried out this after
noon. The score:
OMAHA.

One of the unchangeable laws of nature is that "like shall beget like "
Parents who are related by the ties of blood, or who have a consumptive ten
dency, or other family blood taint are sure to transmit it to their children in the
form of Scrofula. Swollen glands, brittle bones, weak eyes, hip disease,
pale, waxy complexions, sickly bodies, running sores and ulcers, etc., are the
usual manifestations of the disease. Those who have inherited a scrofulous
tendency may succeed in holding it in check during young, vigorous life,
but after a spell of sickness, or when the system begins to weaken and lose
its vitality from other causes the ravages of the trouble will become manifest
and sometimes run into Consumption. S. S. S. goes down into the circulation
and forces out the scrofulous deposits, kills the germs and completely cures
the disease. It changes the quality of the blood by removing all impurities
and poisons, and supplying this vital fluid with rich, health-sustaining
qualities. S. S. S. is a purely vegetable medicine, and is especially adapted to
systems which have been weakened and poorly nourished by scrofulous blood.
Literature on Scrofula and any medical advice desired sent free to all who
