There were con tinued signs in today'a stork market or the exercise of a benevolent control by skillful and other resourceful speculative leaders keening It within the deecntlon ot a pro- foweW.naJ market- The selling to realise profits was on a more liberal scsie man reterdny and the resulting resclkm In pricea was more pronounced. The growing dullness of the ore rat tons as prices receded below last nlaht's close 1n1'retel the atrengrn oi ine nom-ra Weir unwllllmmeee to forwo their profile. The extent to which profit taking has been achieved and the reduction In the short Interest which has rone hand In hand wuti the movement result in a technical position favorable for reaction. It is a wen known device of the beet known speculative lead er who have conducted, great movements In the markets to vary a movement wn reactions, digest their own profits from time to time In that way and at the same time shake off a weak speculative follow ing, which la a burden on the market In the event of the development of any untoward circumstances. The rise la price from the low points of last w-- during the duil period of which 'the sccumulation waa ef- ected from which the r1e siartet. h-I reached from five to ten points at the ex treme of the additional advances In today a early trading. Of the rumors which have developed and helted aluna the advance there waa some revision of opinion with the realization of the substantial is one or which they are composed. This was no tably true of those dealing with eurpoeed poliiical bargains which were to make op portunities for active speculation. When prices ceasnq to go up most of these stones nerppei out of view, on a more euoetan- ttal basis was the impression hrotiglt away from Washington by delegation camea there by anxiety over the scope of pro posed measures for the restriction of ac tivities on the exchanges of the country, including storks, cotton and grain a Less fear was expressed by these delegations of sny interfer-nce with the methods street Ing the exchanges of the count rv aa a re sult of their personal contact with tha au- thinitles In Washington. Borne buying for London acronnt waa a factor In the absorptive power of the mar get. The subtreaaury figures, showing a cash net gain for the day s operations of i.3.tnw reflected the turning over of gov ernment deposits by the banks In response to the call of the secretary of tha treasury The effect on the money market was not appreciable. The easing condition of tha rmmey situation and the encouraging strength that waa beginning to be shown by the stock market have caused expecta tions that early announcements might be rortneoming or Intended plans of financing oy ine large corporation. The element in the speculation which v'ews the rise In prices at thia time wit h dim rust, urge a one ground of suspicion that the rise Is lostered bv manipulation in order to aid theee Intended flotation. Beef steers were m good demand and m spits of the fact that tne offerings were large buyers were out reasonably early looking for supplies. Sellers who happened to have something that seemed to take the fancy of buyers thought that they se cured strong prices aa compared with yesterday. On the other hand, holders of less desirable kinds In soma cases were quoting the market a little easier. Taking th trade as a whole It is safe to quote It as a good, steady and reasonably active market. What has been said regarding the steer trade would apply equally wll to cows and heifers. The demand waa good and ths general markat steady, with some kinds peasibly strong and others a Uttla wean. Considering the large run, the movement was very fair and the bulk of tha cattle changed hands In good season. The supply of stockera and feedera was large, there being quits a number of range steers from Wyoming and Idaho In addi tion to quite a sprinkling of native and warmed up stuff. There were Also a g od many light cattle. The demand waa quite liberal and desirable kinds at least sold freely, with the general market snowing little change as compared with yesterday. The qual ity of the offerings did nut average aa good as yesterday, there being a good many common and not overly desirable sheep among th offerings. This nature lv had Ita effect upon buyers, and taking everything Into account, the market could not be quoted otherwise than as opening very slow and dull. As a rule the prices paid were about steady with yesterday, but the market waa lacking in the usual snap and life, and on some kinds opening bitls were decuirdly lower. At the same Ume some very good Colorado yearlings which buyers Just happened to want sold luc higher than yesterday. The morning waa well advanced before anything like a clearance waa effected. Practically everything desirable waa sold before the close, but the holders of shorn stuff found it harder work unloading and buyer are btglnmng to talk that the range between woied and shorn heep is too nsr rnw and that there ought to be a wider difference. This feeling waa shown In their neglect to some extent of the shorn sheep her today. Some good Colorado yearlings sold up to IAJ6. with westerns as high aa talw and western, ewes at to lb.
