CATTLE Although there were a few
cattle on the market today, the supply
was not sufficient to attract buyers and
the market was nominally unchanged. The
supplies for the week foot up nearly
19.WM head or substantially the same as
last week and only about l.(M head less
than for the corresponding week a year
ago. The quality of the cattle haa been
very fair throughout. Opening prices this
week were generally quite a little higher
than last week and this advance was
fairly well sustained on Tuesday and
Wednesday. On Thursday Tith a rather
liberal aupply on sale there was a de
cline of about 10c and with no material
change either Friday or today, the market
closes with prices in practically the same
notches as st the close of last week. The
demand for good handy weight beeves has
been well sustained from start to finish,
both local dressed beef men and eastern
buyers taking the 1.060 to 1.300-pound csttle
freely at good prices. Heavy cattle have
been sdmewhat neglected all week and the
rough and unfinished kinds have been
low sellers all the time.
Butcher stock and cannera have been In
good request at not far from steady
prices all around. Supplies of this char
acter continued rather moderate and there
was a good Inquiry both for local and ship
ping account. Medium and common stuff
has a rather narrow outlet, but prices are
not materially different from those of a
week ago. Veal calves have stregthened
up somewhat and are selling better than
last week and the same Is true for bulls,
stags, etc.
Business In stockers and feeders has not
been very excessive. In fact never is at
this time of the year. The offerings have
been somewhat limited, while the demand
from the country has bee'n rather disap
pointing. Desirable, light and medium
weight steers found a ready sale at strong
figures, while heavy and low grade light
stuff have been neglected and prices are
If anything a shade lower than a week
ago. Dealers are not looking for much
activity In this branch of the business
until the weather becomes more suitable.

HOGS The week closes with a rather
small run and a sharp advance in prices.
Both local and eastern markets have been
Indifferently supplied for two or three days
and the demand has picked up very ma
terially, with prices s.iowing a sharp ad
vance all along the line. Heavy and butcher
weight loads command a good premium
and. as all classes of buyers are taking the
good light weight loads more freely, the
range of prices hss narrowed down some
what. Today tops b-ought 34.40, as against
34.3714 yesterdav. and the bulk of the of
ferings was at 34 20tfM 35. as against St.fttf
4 20 yesterday and 33.Si4.u6 last Saturday,
the market thus showing an advance of
about oc for the week.

Ti e onlf thing that haa held prlcea prob

that 111 pi lies have at no time been exces

better shape, and while prices showed no

In the feeder division there was not much

a rather spirited demand sprung up when
