President Wlnchell of the Bock Island
road has asked W. B. Blddle, third vice
president of the road, to give his special
attention to the Omaha exposition, and
Mr. Blddle writes to the association as
follows:
Your letter of February 19 to President
Wlnnhell has been handed me by him, ow
ing to the fart that he had asked me to
give special attention to the work in wnicn
you are engaged.
I believe the Rock Island road, If not
the pioneer, has at least been In the front
Tank In the movement which has been
growing rapidly during the last few years
to create an Interest In the betler selection
nf seeds and ImDroved methods of agri
culture, believing that both the rallrond
nH the farmer tirnflted bv it. We not
only handled seed corn specials under the
direction of the agricultural departments
of the various states, but we have had for
years an agricultural department of our
own under the charge of a commissioner
who devotes his entire time to this work.
We are satisfied that the National Corn
exposition-will stimulate the development
of corn production and will be an Im
portant factor In creating an Interest In
agricultural science. It Is our purpose to
id In every legitimate way In making your
exposition a success, and our agricultural
commissioner and other officers of this
company will he glad to aid you In any and
every wav that tney consistently can.

our deep Interest In the National Corn ex
position enterprise, and I am particularly
g'.ad to hear that such good progress has
been made. I congratulate you.
Omaha is a particularly favorable place
at which to hold the National Corn exposi
tion of 190. and If everybody takes hold
with the proper spirit the exposition should
be a pronounced success.
While It. is true that much has been done
to develop the science of agriculture, there
remains much to do. ana there is nothing
that the government or the people can
push that will bring such quick cash re
turns ss further development on those
lines, and particularly will Nebraska, Iowa
and a large similar area benefit by an In
crease of knowledge of the science of rais
ing corn.
Arrangements have already been made
to co-operate with you in a practical way
on our road for the success of this enter
prise and If from time to time you see
how we can be or further assistance Just

Pardee's funeral was held Thursday after
noon tn Knights and Ladles of Security
hall, Fourteenth and Dodge streets. Rev,
S. P. Bartle. assistant pastor of the First
Methodist church, officiating at the hall,
The lodge had charge of the services In
Forest Lawn cemetery. The woman's sis
ter, Mrs. W. C. Sudley of Atlantic, la., and
her mother, Mrs. O. J. Anderes of Des
Moines, la., were present at the funeral.

Tuesday evening twenty of the employes
of the Lilliputian Bazaar dined with
Messrs. Benson A. Thorne at the Calumet
cafe. After the rattle of the dishes had
subsided Miss Bertha Oshlo delighted
everybody with recitations, both pathetlo
and Jolly. A southern dialogue by Miss
Lillian Peterson was thoroughly enjoyed,
as was also her original paper styled "In
splratlon." In which mention was made of
some odd Incidents that happen In busy
store life.
