Governor Bparks yesterday called an extra sea don of the legislature to convene January II. For the last twenty-four houra the governor hug been deluged with dis patches from all over the state and many places outside Nevada, urging the calling of the extra session to settle labor troubles. Following Is the text of the call: To the Honorable Members of the Twenty-third Session of the Legislature , of the 8lato of Nevada Gentlemen: The constitution of the stave. Article 4, Sec tion IX, provides that the governor may, on extraordinary occasions, convene the legislature by proclamation and shall state to both houses when organized the pur poso for which they have been convened, and the legislature shall transact no other legislative business than that for which they were specially convened or such Other legislative business as the governor may cull to the attention of the legisla ture while In session. Believing that un extraordinary occasion now exists and one which the legislature, being a corporate branch of the stute gov . eminent, Is prepared to solve. It became ' my duty, by proclamation, to convene the legislature at Carson City. Nevada, on the fourteenth day of January, A. D. IflOg. This request has leen made by many citi zens, the object being to adjust by legis lation. If possible, the controversy exist ing between the miners and mine owners at 'Qoldfleld, this state. Such legislation should be general In character and Impar tially applicable for the restoration and preservation of law and order. Under the legislation, as above ctled, the governor shall state to both houses, when organized, the purpose for which they have been convened. Jl.-(Speclal ) In all probability the proposition to estab lish the auxiliary school of Dakota Wes ley an university at Hot Springs will be set tled this week when the executive commit tee of the university will meet here to de cide on the location of the site In Hot Springs. Dr. Nicholson, president of the university, spent the last week In the Hills country, and met with Rev. Mr. Dolllver, uperlnteadent of missions; E. W. Martin of Deadwood and S. E. Wilson of Hot Springs. The proposition Is to purchase the buildings and grounds of the old Black Hills college at Hot Springs and conduct the academy aa an auxiliary to the Meth odist Institution In this city. Present plans cay for the carrying out of a college pre paratory course, with courses In music, art and business. Hot Springs has already raised about 16,000 to assist In the project. The old college building Is 6tlxS5 feet, three torlea high and 'cost about $30,000, sur rounded by fifteen acres for a campus. The buildings and grounds are owned by eastern capitalists, who were compelled to fore close a mortgage on the school when It ' failed along In the eary nineties.
