Mr. Lou Hlller, the members were given a
real treat In the presentation of a play en
titled. "The Old Maids' Convention," fol
lowed by an Informal dance. The play,
which pictured "spinsters" In a very ludi
crous light, called forth enthusiastic ap
plause and afforded much merriment. The
cast included Mrs Henry Hlller, as 'presi
dent of the Old Maids' Matrimonial club;
Miss Lena Rehfeld, secretary, and Mrs.
Harry May, treasurer. The old maids were
Mra. L . Kaufman. Mrs. H. J. Abrahams,
Mrs. Harry Abrahams, Mrs. Herman Cohn,
Mrs. B. Arnsteln, Mrs. Leopold Heller,
Mrs. Nathan Mantel, Mrs. Albert Dryfoos.
Mrs. Julius Drlefuss and Mrs. Charlln
Ktrschbraun. Mr. Henry Rosenthal was
the professor, and assisting were Miss
Laura Ooets, Mlaa Myrtle Moses, Miss
Lucille Callsch, Miss Florence Hlller. M!s
Zerllna Dryfoos, Miss Sadie Klrschbraun,
Mine Helen Firth and Miss Blanche
Grolte. No decoratlona of the hall was
attempted, and K was quite unnecessary
constderlag the elaborate adornment of the
old maids. They were ornamented with
the mast bewildering flower combinations,
Quantities of curia clinging to their "youth
ful" faces, and their beauty further en
hanced by the fashionable mantillas. Fol
lowing the play supper was served in the
banquet hall. The remainder of the even
ing was devoted to dancing. About fifty
eight couples were present.
For Mrs. Vance Lane.
Complimentary to Mrs. Vance Lane Mrs.
H. J. Penfold gave a handsomely appointed
dinner Wednesday evening at the Rome.
The table was brightened by a low mound
of red rosea. The plate cards were epe.
elally attractive, being In book form and
having two leaves. On one was the name
of Mrs. Lane, the hostess' name and the
date and on the other were the names of
the twelve guests present. Including Mrs.
Vance Lane, Mrs. N. Rcckard, Mrs. C. B.
Horton,. Mrs. Frank Morlarlty, Mrs. L. C.
Orsy of Chicago, Mrs. Ben Berk of New
York. Mrs. O. D. Klpllnger, Mrs. John
R. Manchester, Mrs. L. II. Korty, Mrs. E.
E. Bryson, Mrs. J. B. Blanchard and the
hostess '
, Birthday Celebration.
- Mrs. J. E. Shaffer entertained at dinner
Wednesday evening In honor of her birth
day and the birthday of her mother, Mrs.
Mary Wood. The rooms were beautifully ;
decorated for the occasion, yellow being
the prevailing color In the variety of
blooms used. The eighteen guests, Includ
ing, members of the Owl club, were seated
at one , large table, A large owl graced
the center of the table In compliment to
the members of the club. It was sur
rounded by a low mound of fruit. From
the eenter chandelier to the four corners
of the table were streamers of pumpkin
colored ribbon. The plate cards were hand,
painted and were tinted in yellow. For
carda , the guests were seated at small
tables, the members of the club being In
on room and the guests In, another, and
two sets of prises were awarded. Mr. and
Mrs. William J. MoCann won the first
prises of the club members, Mrs. Max
Burkonroad second and consolation prizes
were awarded to Mr. Alex Jetes and Mrs.
Bauarmelsterv The guests' prize was woa
by Mrs.. Bernstein and, the booby by Dr.
Hostetter. The members of the club pre
sented Mrs. Shaffer with a handsome hand
painted picture. Those present were: Mr.
and Mrs. Bernstein, Mrs. Mary Wood, Miss
Grace Shaffer, Miss Rudd, Mr. and Mrs.
Alex Jetes, Mr. snd Mrs. L. W. Bur dick.
Mr. and Mrs. William J. McCann, Mr. and
Mrs. William Urbach, Mr. and Mrs. Max
Bnrkenroad, Mr.- and Mrs. Will Bauer
melster, Pr. Hostetter ami Mr. Sagaser.

Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Bishop entertained
Thursday at Thanksgiving dinner, when
their table was decorated with yellow and
whits chrysanthemums. The piste rsrds
were designed with turkeys, and marked
the places oft Mr. snd Mrs. Wllllsm Ur
baeh, Mr Mtmroe Urbach, Mrs. Fred Lef
ferts, Mr. and' Mrs. John Bishop, Miss
Bessie Bishop, Miss Bromer and Dr. and
Mra. Bishop.
Mr. and Mrs. William J. McCann also en
tertained at Thanksgiving dinner, when
cover were laid for eight. -
Mr. and Mrs. O.-W. Hervey gave a pret
tily appointed Thanksgiving dinner Thurs
day, American Beauties forming the cen
terpiece for -the table, while the plnte
cards were Thanksgiving suggestions.

cago arrived Thursday morning to spend
Thanksgiving , with Mrs. Mscalllster's
psrents. Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Hervey. Mrs.
Maoallister will remain until after the
holidays.
Mr, and Mrs. Thomas Latham Davis re
turned Wednesdsy evening from their wed
ding trip In California, and will be at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Brady
until their new home Is resdy for them.
Miss Mary Lee Mc8hane and Miss Mar
garet Wood left Wednesday evening for
Cleveland. O., where they will be brides
maids' at 'the wedding of Mtsa Irma
Squire and Mr.' John F. Rest. The wed
ding will take place at the home of Mr.
Squires, who Is vice president of the Stan
dard Oil company.
Mr. Harry Montgomery Is 111 at his
heme with typhoid fever.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Keellne are spend
ing Thanksgiving In Chicago as guests
of Mrs. Keellne' sister, Mrs. Arthur
