NKW YORK, Nov. I:'. Thrte was .1 re
pewal of KipililMtlon in the stock niHrket
todiv of h character which CHitied a
formidable influence on speculative senti
ment. The effect for good of the national
government's plan of relief for the cur

away completely, this result lietng sn ex

pronrers of the day's dealings Witnessed
a steady wnnlng of the effect of that

In not a few Instances to the lowest prices

The pressure to liquidate was urgent
In some points if the list snd was con

little doubt of the necessities of the sollers.
It first developed in portenous lorm
in the Chicago. Rock Island & Pacific

was used as contlrmatoti of some of these
conjectures, owing to huge common In
terests known to lie held in the two groups
of properties. While the identity of the
sellers was thus but vaguely outlined, tbe
volume and the urgency (f die sellimr
gave it sufficient Importance, without the
additional Inferences drawn from its
personal bearings. The selling of St. Paul.

jectured in the other pinup. The weak
ness of these stocks was the conspicuous
feature of the day's market and II wiis
its sympathetic effect, more than anything
else, that gave the tone to the rest of the.
market.
The confusion ef mind revealed bv the
discussion of the plan to issue I'nited
States treasury one year certificates to
the amount of $lu.'o.' .o not only by the
rank and tile of operators In slocks, al
ways ready to venture an Interpretation'
ready-made on any conceivable develop
ment, but by public commentators of au
thority and hankers of skill-tl knowledge
detracted from the kooiI effect of the
project. The willingness of the New York
banks to subscribe for the certificates in
large amounts seemed to hinge on the
question of leuve to count them in their
legal reserve. There was an Intimation
from Washington of the purpose of the
secretary of l he treasury to transfer the
proceeds of New York subscript ions to
points of active demand in the Interior.
The right to issue bank notes against the
certificates, which could not be counted as
bank reserves under the law misiit not
compensate the banks for such a sur
render of reserve holdings. Reports of
further large curtailment of Iron output
was hu Influence on the markel. 'l itis Is In
accordance with the avowed Intention of
iron trade authorities to udjusl produc
tion to consumptive requirements, what
ever those may be. Such an avoidance
of accumulation ' of stocks Is expected to
do much towards maintaining stability in
the trade. Tim shrinkage in uctlvlty Is,
nevertheless, to be reckoned wth. The
decline in prices was continued practically
without interruption lo the closing,
Honda were weak. Total sales. par
value, $4.HX4.iiOO. I'nited States 2s declined
'. the 2s and the 4s 1 per cent on
call.
Number of sales nnd range of prices on
stocks were as follows:

cclpiH ut all other markel points were re
ported very liberal for u Tuesday. As
there wss no Improvement In the demand
to correspond with Hie Increase in the re
ceipts it followed that the feeling on the
mnrket was extremely weak right from the
outsit. Advices from other market points
indicated a sharp decline and the market
lure opmied very dull, with the feeling
generally IMjlje lower on the general run
of stuff.
The market continued extremely dull all
the forenoon, salesmen finding It hard
work to unload. Sucii beef steers ss met
the approval of buyers sold generally lto
lower than yesterday, but there were
cases whero cattle that did not happen lo
lind special favor show more declinu than
that.
Cows and heifers were very dull through
out and were generally noted 1o4j15c lower
than yesterday.
Stockers and feeders were about the dull
est that they have been any day, as well
as the lowest, being fully l'Kyluc lower
than yeaterdav, and hard to move evsn at

HOGS T'li receipts of hogs this morning
Were very much larger thai) usual of late.
It being a normal run for this srasnn of
the year. Fortunately there was a pretty
fair demand, so that sellers did not find
very much difficulty In securing buyers at
current prices. However, the situation
was entirely against the selling Interests.
Advices from all market points Indicated
Urge recelptf, with pricea decidedly lower.
Thus the first message from Chicago re
ported .'O.Oflo hogs. 15o lower, but a 111 tie
later the market was posted as VOhCo
lower. With such advices from other sell
ing points it Is not surprising that tho
market here opened Ivf20c lower than yes
terday. The first hogs sold verv largely
on the basis of $4.t for the general run.
In fact the early market was a e proposi
tion, there being very few sales either
above or below thai figure. Salesmen
seemed to feel that under such conditions
there was nothing lo do but to lake their
medicine and they accordingly cut loose,
so that mosl of the hogs In sight changed
hands In veiy fair season in tbe forenoon.
Late trains came in more heavily
loaded than anticipated, making the to
tal receipts over 100 cars, t lie hesvlest
run of any day since September 2ti. In
spite of the large receipts the trade con
tinued active, with prices fullv ss good as
esrly, that Is. largely It.tiO 4.65. with a
few st $4.70. It will be noted that $4.65
was the most popular price nnd a very
large proportion of the loads brought
that price.
Today's decline carries the market to
the lowest point touched so far. A
feature of today's trade was the active
buying on the part of shippers and ono
of the blr packers who announced that
III his belief tho iKittom hud been tonclsd
and hence he was willing to tske on a
goodly number at prevailing prices. This
sentiment is entirely at variance with
the opinion expressed a couple of week
ago by the Armours, who predicted that
hoga .would touch $4 before the down,
ward movement was finally checked.

and was fairly active. The prices paid for
killers were steady In posslb'.y n little
lower in some spots. In fact, some of Hie
buvers . thought that they bought to a
rifle better adventage than yesterday. Old
wethers, with a Tew yearlinga on them,
sold to the klllera at $4.r.5. with quite u
long string of ewes at $4.1i.
There were more feeder buvers In the
yards than for several (lavs back, with
the result that there was more life to the
trade than usual of late, lb would look
ns If country hanks were loosening up a
little to the extent of faking csre of some
of their customers. Atwnv rate there were
a number of buyer. In the yards this morn

there was no very noteworthy change, as
compared with esterdsy. If anything, the
