Within a few weeks a nu''Unr is to he
called nt the Commercial club to take the
preliminary steps for 11 fat stork show to
be hflfl In the Auditorium during the fall
of lDOS. It tvfll he ii show which will in

the poultry show In ronnertlon, making It
at once, one of the most complete displays
of commercial animals nnd poultry In thu
west.
Oinnha ! advantage point fur the fnt

will be formed which will inrl ide Denver.
Oinahn, Kannns f'lty and fhlraRo. l)n.
ver has given fat stock shows and secured
natlonul conventions of stockmen, though
It Is not recognized In the same class as
Omaha as a live stork market.
.larfson the Spokesman.
F. W. Judson, manager of "he Midland
Glass and Paint company and one Inter
ested In live stock for many years, will
present tho subject at a meeting of busi
ness men of Omaha and i-outli Omaha,
which Is to be held at the Commercial
club. Mr. Judson said:
"Following the stock show Omaha will
show an Inteicst In tho business which
will causo the national conventions of
storkmeu In select this city as a meeting
place. We ore always represented at the
met tings, but we have not had one here.
It Is strange that one of the three large
live Block markets of America should not
hnvo a llvo stock show, when thousands
Interested In the business come to Omaha
niuny times a year. It seems that the time
la ripe for the consideration of the stock
show business, and we have a whole year
in which to make tho arrangements."
Mr. Judson has the backing of the large
live stock Interests of South Omaha In his
proposal that Omaha make tho stock show
the big feature of next fall nd winter's
entertainments which are furnished each
year for the patrons of the market and
tho friends of the city. A number of Wyo
ming and western Nebraska stockmen have
inquired lately why It was that Omaha did
not have a fat slock show and the busi
ness men propose to seo that no oppor
tunity for a display Is lost.

Chief of Police Donahue after consulta
tion with tho mayor has made tentative ar
rangements for the enforcement of the
Sunday closing order which Is to become
effective Duonner 10. It has been decided '
to give the citiiens an opportunity to test
tho scopo and intent of the law in the
courts, henoe but one person In each line
of business will be arrested until after the
court pass upon the matter.
Vnder this plan In case of violations, one ;
newsboy, one newspnper carrier, one em- '
ployo of n theater, one grocer, one butcher, '
one druggist, one cigar dealer, and so on, ;
will be taken Into custody and be given a
chance to appeal from conviction before
others are arrested. If the first man taken ;
should bo acquitted, or should refuse to '
apjieal from conviction another will be ar-
rested until one can be found In each line I
of work who will give the supreme court 1
an opportunity to pass upon the statute. 1
As tho arrests are being made under the
terms of a state luw, and not of a city
ordinance. Mayor Dahlman Is trying to
find a way by which cost of prosecution '
can be shifted from the city to tho state
or county. If possible tinder the law suits .
agulnst violntors of the statute will be 1
brought before a Justice of tho peace or
tho county judgo In place of before the
police magistrate.

FIGHT TO STOP STOCK YARDS
Injnnrtlon Sought by Ire l'lnnt ,
Attaint In I on Parlflo at
North Platte.
Tho hearing upon the application for an
Injunction to reatraln the Union Pacific
Railroad company from constructing stock
yards at North Platte was heard before
Judge W. H. Munger In the United States
circuit court Saturday morning. The plain
tiff in the case Is John Frailer who oper
ates an Ice plant 'in the vicinity of the
proposed new stock yards. The application
for an Injunction la based upon the alle
gation that the spring from which the plain
tiff procurea his supply of spring water for
Ihe operation of his Ice plant will run
through the proposed stock yards and by
the establishment of such yards the water
will become polluted and the business of
the plaintiff thereby destroyed.
