1'eatnrea of the Trading; and Closing
I'rlees on Board of Trade.
CHICAGO. Nov. .-After a nervous ses
sion the local whest market closed strong
buying by shorts, the December deliv
ery showing a net gain of IS'crlc. Corn
was off c. Oats were Vac lower. Pro
visions wore 2c to 74c higher.
The (7cmanl for wheat which -un,.rl
the sirong tone late In the day was based
chiefly on the weekly statement of tho
Aiew York hunk, which showed a more
satisfactory condition than hud heen gen
Tally expected. An Improved export de
mand and liberal shipments from here
iliw past week helped to strengthen the
market. There was an active trade during
:he Inst half of the session, but the vol
. iimo of business early In the day was very
light. Lower cables and a sharp break
In corn were bearish iiifluens-t-s that
caused weakness the first part of the day.
The market closed strong. December
opened VcrSe lower to Si4o higher, at

MB cars Inst week and 678 cars a year ago.
Renewed liquidation caused a slump of
c pec bushel In the price of corn. A large
port of these sales were said to bs for
tho account of an eastern trader. Prices
advanced, about lc from the low point on
buying by shorts. Induced by tho strength
-)f wheat. The close was steady. Decem

snd then declined to 66Vfcc. Tho close was
t WHtiSaHc. Ijocal receipts were 66 cars,
with 16 cars of contract grade.
Oats were weak almost all day. Thero
was only a small volume of business. The

receipts were 240 cars.
Provisions were firm on active demand
by shorts. Offerings were light through

the price of live hogs was a bullish factor.

CATTLE As usual on Saturday there
were not enough cattle In sight to make a
market. The receipts for the week have
been the lightest ol any week since the
early part of August, there having been a
heavy tailing off us compared with last
week nnd a still heavier decrease. as com
pared with a year ago. In fact receipts of
cattle, this week hove been little more
than half whut thev were during tho cor
responding week of last year. Prospects
would all seem to Indicate a belief t hat
hairing occasional heavy days the. receipts
are likely to continue light from now on.
Advices from all sections of tho range
country indicate thut hundreds of cars of
cattle brought up to tho railroads for ship
ment, have been turned back on the range
and will be held over until another season.
The week started out with a lower move
ment to values, prices breaking sharply on
Monday and Tuesday. The decline was
plainly the result of very light demand for
beef steers on the part of packers. The
consuming demand lor the products ap
pears to have fallen off in all sections of
the country, with the result thst the pack
ers both here and ut all other market
points do not require as many beeves with
which to till orders as was the case a few
weeks ago. As they are not disposed to
ouy except wnen the stuff Is actually
needed with which to fill orders the demand
In consequence was light, as noted above.
Receipts on Monday and Tuesday being
rather liberal was the occasion for the
sharp breuk In prices. On Wednesday the
market remained stationary. The decline
In prices the first two days of the week
cut off receipts nlmost entirely, so that on
Ihursday and Friday thero were hardly

HOOS-VVhen the market oenod this
morning there were only sixteen cars of
hogs in eight. At the same lime thero was
a yery good buying demand 011 the part of
shippers, with the result that the market
opened Kplisj higher than ye&terday's gen
eral market. The hoars ,w l,'...i. ..

closing with part of the advance lost. The
lai t that there was not enough hogs to
make a killing for any one of the packers
was largely responsible for the weak close
no one of the packers caring to buy the
few s altering loads to carry over until
next week.
The receipts this week have been ex
tremely light, there being hardly enough
hogs on some days to niuks a fair test of
the market. In spite of that fact prices
have gone down hill rapidly, a heavy de
cline taking place each day. Even after
allowing for the sharp advance toalav the
market la still 75'7c lower than it was ut
the cloe of last week.
There is so much uncertainty surrounding
the trade at the present lime thut It is
hardly worth the while to express an
opinion as to the future of the market. It
may be said, however, thst the feeling on
all sides Is very weak. Today's reaction
Is only looked upon aa a temporary move
ment and the ft . ling seems to be that
prices are not likely to show any perma
1 ent advance for some time to come. On
the contrary the chances are laiter for a
decliue than for an advance. Some of the
big pack.rs are predicting $4.u) hogs for
the near future, whetber they are right In
their estimate remains to be seen.

BHEEP There were no fresh recelnts of

the week have been very light, showing
a falling off of over 4 OOo head, as compared

it was an extremely small run for the

the part of packer and feeder buyers and
