MOVES WEST
YEARS AGO the BEST RESIDENCE DISTRICT in Omaha was. In the
vicinity of ELEVENTH, TWELFTH, HARNEY AND HOWARD STREETS.
LATER, business encroached, and the residence DISTRICT MOVED WEST
TO SIXTEENTH AND SEVENTEENTH STREETS, where, a few years aro.
stood the large houses built by General Lowe, Mr. Balbach, Mr. Turner and
Mr. Hcagland, which houses have ainco given way to large RETAIL STORE
BUILDINGS.
The NEXT MOVE was WEST to TWENTY-FOURTH. TWENTY-FIFTH
and TWENTY-SIXTH STREETS.'
Next, and only a few years ago, the move was WEST to the hill between
THIRTY-SECOND AND FORTIETH STREETS.
The HISTORY of the westward movement of Omaha's best residence
district is again REPEATING ITSELF, and this time it is to the hills WEST
OF FORTY-EIGHTH STREET, north and south of Dodge 8freet.
WHY
HAS OMAHA'S BEST RESIDENCE DISTRICT GRADUALLY
MOVED

This is EASILY EXPLAINED when one stops and thinks a moment.
Omaha CANNOT GROW to the EAST, NORTHEAST or SOUTHEAST, as
the Missouri river is its eastern boundary.
It CAN EXPAND ONLY to the NORTH. WEST and SOUTH.
The territory to the SOUTH and SOUTHWEST Is ALREADY WELL
COVERED by the STOCK YARDS, PACKING HOUSES and various MANU
FACTURING INDUSTRIES, and the houses of employes of these industries.
To the NORTH and NORTHWEST the character of the IMPROVEMENTS
Is WELL ESTABLISHED, and there Is no large tract, UNPLATTED, AVAIL
ABLE and SUITABLE for a fino residence district.
WEST is the ONLY WAY in which Omaha's best residence district CAN
EXPAND, IN THE FUTURE, AS IN THE PAST.
SHREWD INVESTORS
do not forget that It was the COSTLY and BEAUTIFUL HOUSES erected near
SIXTEENTH. SEVENTEENTH and HARNEY streets, Omaha's best residence
district years ago, that first CAUSED that PROPERTY TO BECOME WORTH
$50 or $100 per front foot.
They do not forget that the LARGE HOUSES BUILT WEST AT
TWENTY-FOURTH, TWENTY-FIFTH and TWENTY-SIXTH STREETS, at a
time when that was Omaha's best residence district, CAUSED VALUES TO
REACH S50 and $100 PER FRONT FOOT.
They do not forget that the building of the beautiful HOUSES BE
TWEEN Thlrtv-aecond and Fortieth, north and south of Farnam, AC
COUNTS FOR today's VALUES there of from $50 to $100 per front foot, and
NONE OF THE DISTRICTS above named was graded, or PROPERLY PRE
PARED before sub-divided into lots.
THEY KNOW that the $10,000 and $25,000 HOI sua now oeing erected
near Dodge Street, WEST OF DUNDEE, and the LARGE SUMS OF MONEY
being spent in BEAUTIFYING THE LAND, before sub-dividing Into lots, for
houses to cost $2,500.00 or over, between Fifty-first and Happy Hollow Golf
and Country Club. In- DUNDEE, will eventually cause all land In that BEAU
TIFUL RESIDENCE DISTRICT to b worth from $50 to $100 PER FRONT
rum'. t v . ....
Some of the very LOTS WE ARE NOW SELLING in that district for
$475 to $575 PERFECTLY PREPARED FOR BUILDING, with water, cement
walks and shado trees in street, and gas and electric light when demand Justi
fies extending, with an-EIGHT-MINUTE STREET CAR SERVICE," will be
bringing $50 PER FRONT FOOT within a VERY FEW YEARS.
Take ANY WEST' FARNAM-DUNDEE CAR, go to Fifty-second Street, or
GO WITH US THIS tfpEK and, see the property j - ...
