Not so very long ago Congressman Prank
C Wachter of Maryland was delivering a
speech to a select assemblage of Bo
hemians In Baltimore. He unburdened
himself of all the political nre In his sup
ply and then sat down amid thundering
applause. The applause continued. It
was plainly "up to" Mr. Wachter to re
spond to the encore, but he wanted to do
something special. ( He leaned 'over to
William Weissager, a ward leader Df that
end of town, and whispered:
"This applause touches me touches me
deeply. Give me a line in Bohemian, that
I may thank them in their own language."
Weissager promptly delivered the line,
which Mr. Wachter as promptly rehearsed.
Frank always was '.'quick study." At ths
proper moment he arose and spoke the
line In a voice that could be heard a mile
away.
Instantly there was a mad scramble ami
a rush for the doors. Inhalf a jiffy th
hall was empty. Wachter turned In dis
may to Weissager. "For heaven's sake."
