CATTLE Receipts of cattle have been
very large this week, showing a consider
able gain over the previous week and a
very large gain over the corresponding
week of a year ago. The tendency of the
market throughout the week has been
lower and to that extent at least unsatis
factory to the selling interests. Trains have
been late on a good many days and that
fact together with large receipts has. made
a slow and late market a good share of
the time.
With heavy receipts of beef steers it
has been uu easy matter for buyers to
pound prices tills week. The result Is
that at the close sellers are generally quot
ing all kinds of beef cattle fully hmlfic
lower, with as much aa a 26e decline in
some spots. In spite of the sharp decline,
corn-fed ateers sold as high as (7.10, the
best cattle sold and the best price paid at
this point for some little time.
The cow market has also been tfolng
steadily downward all the week, the same
as have beef steers and at the close of
the week la generally quUed loo15c lower.
The decline haa been on the good kinds of
cows and heifers aa well as on the Inferior
grades, In fact some of the medium kinds
have possibly held up better than the more
desirable Jflnds.
Quite a large business was done during
the week in Blockers snd feeders, but with
such liberal receipts buyers. who have
been feeling all slung that prlcea wore too
high, were enabled to force a general re
duction In values all along the line. At
the close of the week the market Is lOtlbo
lower than a week ago. Some kinds possi
bly have not ahown that much loss, while
others have shown more.

HUGS Hoga opened about steady thla
morning and a considerable proportion sold
that way. Later on aa the more urgent
orders were tilled buyers took advantage
of the tact that it was Saturday and closed
the market generally 6c lower. The trade
was at no time very active and the later
market waa naturally dull from the effects
of the pounding administered by buyers.
The receipts today ran very largely to
heavy hogs, there being comparatively few
light weights and nothing choice of that
description. For thla reason the sales look
lower on paper even than yesterday,
The week opened with a break of elOc
and since that day there haa been a grad
ual upward movement, so that at the close
Friday the market was practically back to
Where It was on the previous Saturday. The
3eikness developed today leaves the week
oslng a shade under last week, taking
the average prioe as a guide. Taking qual
ity Into consideration, however, the mar
ket today was fully steady with a week
ago,

taken nut again without being ofTered for
sale. A few other cars Were shipped out
without blng said. This Is a record that
any market might be proud of.
Hut the else of the receipts and the faet
that everything sold on the day ef arrival
does not by any means tell the whole
story. The question that most interest
the sellers is how were prices itialntslned,
Thla is easily answered. In spite of tin
large receipt fully steady prlcea wnre main
tained with a tendency the middle of ths
week toward strength, feeder lambs on
Wednesday selling up lo 17.10, the. highest
prices ever paid on thla market. The last
of the weok prlcea -ere not quite so strong,
but they closed fully steady with the
previous wek. On the other hand fat
wether and ewea. which alto showed
atrength. maintained the acquired strength
until the close, quotations being higher
then at the close of last week. '
No quotations are given on fair to good
killers, as feeder buyers are taking proo
tlcr.lly everything of that dem-Hpflon at
better prices than packers will pay.
