Now and then it was pos sible to lind a salesman who thought he secured stronger prices on some of his better loads, but on the other hand sales man who let go yesterday at the highest point of the market had hard work today to secure steady prices, some of them even calling their sales today a trifle easier than yesterday. The great big bulk of the hogs sold In about the same notches as yester day, $5.0iiB.80, but the top today was 5c higher, one choice load of light hogs sell ing up to $6.16. Although the market was slow In opening, when the Ice wss once broken the hog changed hunds rapidly Toward the cloae the feeling, if anything was hardly as good, and salesmen who re ceived stuff later did not think thai m were able to sell out to as good advantage' b curlier in me imy. The receipts of hogs this week have shown a considerable gain over last week, but not much difference fronia year ago.' The week started out with an advance of fully 10c. which was pretty well maintained during the first half of the week. n- nesday buyers began acting bearish and on Thursday they forced the market down ward. Yesterday there wa a little strength (o the trade, so that the week cloaca with the market about 6c higher than at the close of last week. Representative sales: N' at. sr.. For the week the receipt have been the heaviest of the season to date, being even larger than a year ago. In spile of the very large receipts the market as a whole has been is very satis factory condition, due In largo part to the free buying on tit part of feeders. 1 he demand for feeder sheep and lambs has been so good all the week that the great big bulk of the receipts have sold to the feeder buvers at bcttur price U in packers were willing to pay. During the greater pari of the week anything that the feeders could use, both hep and lambs, commanded full" steady prices. At the close of the week a good many country buyers go home to spend Sunday, thus re ducing to some extent the demand, and for this reason the demand Is never so strong at the close of the week, and prices naturally ease off a Pttlc. t'!l the ort that could be said of the market would be to call it closing weak to 10c lower.
