starting about 2 o'clock.
Both matches in the finals Friday after

spite of the fact that he made an to to a

Sumney a hard tussle for the first nine
holes, but fell down on the Inside.
A large gallery followed the two doc
tors, Survney and Holllster. In their match
In tho semi-finals, and all were rewarded
by seeing some fast golf. Both were In
good form, and both -drove well, having a
great deal of similarity in their play.
Neither player used a wooden club at all,
but both drove with heavy iron clubs, with
which they were able to make about the
same distance. Sunvney was off to the left
with his opening shot and approached
short with his second shot. His third
shot went out of bounds, giving Holllster
the hole In five. 4
v IMny cn Second Green.
Sumney lay a stymie on the second green,
forcing Holllster to shoot around, and he
then missed an easy 'putt, giving Sumney
the hole in five. Holllster was In trouble
on his second shot for the third hole, but
reached the road In three. Sumney won
the hole In flve, putting him one up. Sum
ney drove the tracks all right, but landed
In the rough grass. They were even on
the green, where Sumney missed an easy
putt, which cost him the hole and made
the match even again.
Sumney duMed his drive for the fifth
and then pulled his , second shot Into
trouble, which gave Holllster the hole
and made him one up. Holllster overap
proached on the sixth hole, which Sumney
took In four, making the matcre again
even. They halved the seventh and eighth
holes. They were each on the seventh In
three and Sumney rimmed ror a four and
then rimmed sgaln, putting tils ball stymie
snd the score was 6-6. Both drove nearly
'tin the green at the ninth hole, but Sum
ney approached too strong and It looked
to be all day with htm, but he won by
maktng a sixteen-foot putt, which put him
one up for the tlrst nine holes.
A splendid lofter shot from a high grass
He over a bunch of trees and onto tha

Yessg Pushes Abbott Hard.
Blaine Young gave Sprague Abbott quite
a game In his match with the champion
In tha semi-finals. But for a missed putt
on the seventeenth hole the match would
have gone to the last hole with a chance
for an extra hole match. Young played
in hard luck In the first of the match and
drove bad, but later rounded to and played
like an old-timer Instead of the 19-year-old
that he Is.
Young drove out of bounds at the first
tee and topped his ball on his second so
Abbott took the first hole In bogey. They
halved the second hole In 6. For the third
green Young had all sorts of trouble, dub
bing his drive Into the long grass end land
ing In the bunker on his secohd. He took
10 for the hole, while Abbott made It In
bogey. Abbott cut bogey a stroke on the
fourth and was 3 up.
Young cut Abbott's lead to two on the
fifth by a good drive and by laying his
second shot on the green. They halved the
sixth, seventh and eighth holes, the sev
enth being played by each In one less than
bogey. Both drove to the ninth green and
Young missed a hslf by missing an easy
putt, putting Abbott 3 up on the turn.
He played the first nine In 29, two lost
than bogey.
The tenth was. won by Abbott, making
him 4 up. and. although he played the next
three In bogey, he could not make another
point on the "Kid." who was fighting
hard for every hole. Abbott dubbed his
approach for the fourteenth, while Young
played good golf and took the hole In 4.
He took the next hole In 8, while AJibott's
missed putt forced him to shoot four times
This left Abbott 2 up at the tee for the
seventeenth. Abbott's second shot went
Into the trees on the seventeenth, while
Young made the gTeen In 3. but overplayed
the hole and then missed an easy putt, so
the best he could do was to halve the hole
Abbott winning the match, 2 up and 1 to
play, making the course In 80, two under
bogey.

Old Dal Takes Hand.
The sun played a prominent part In the
second day of the third annual tournament
of the Nebraska Golf association at tha
Omaha Field club. The rays beat straight
down as a reminder of the hot days of
last year, making It sultry for the con
testants, who were glad to hunt the
hydrants around the course. The greens
were much faster than on the first day and
many good scores were made.
Sprague Abbott Is still the favorite In the
pools. In the morning he beat Preston
Davidson 8 up and to play. He was In
fine fettle and made the first nine holes In
89. two under bogey. He drove well and
his approaches were perfect, and If driven
might have made a better score than he
did.
One of tha surprises of the morning was
the defeat of Frank H. Gaines, one of ths
Country club cracks, by Blaine Young, one
of ths Junior players of the Country club.
They had to play the entire eighteen holes
and Gaines lost by a poor put at ths last
hole, his ball rimming the hole on his putt,
J. M. Watson, expert at the Field club,
received many compliments on the excel
lent condition of the course. No pains has
been spared to put the entire course In the
best condition possible and not only are
the fair greens In fin shape, but tha put
ting greens and all other parts of the
course as well.
Brady Makes Thrm Harry.
An Interesting match was played Friday
morning between Bob Simpson, Frank
Campbell, Hal Brady and C. Bogue, Jr.
They were playing In the bogey handicap,
and Hal Brady, although a Junior, made
them all hustle.
