Groasman of New York city appeared before
United States District Attorney Goes Wed
nesday morning to flle a complaint against
on Gorman, an employment agent, under
the peonage act
' Th man are bright fellows of more than
ordinary Intelligence, and are of a party
of eighty-three men who entered Into a
contract with Gorman In New York city
for employment with the Union Pacific
Railroad company, either in Omaha, Kanaas
City or Denver, at from fl.50 to $1.75 per
day, with free transportation, free homes
and board. The young men complain that
up to the time they reached Chicago they
war furnished nothing to eat and that
they came to Omaha over the Northwest
ern road, reaching here Monday night. Ar
riving at Omah they were told they would
have to go to work about 200 hundred miles
west of Omaha. The three young men
protested against going further west, as
they claim It was distinctly understood
bat ween them and Gorman they were to be
ravolyad In Omaha, Denver or Kansas
City.

' They with twenty others refused to go
further , under Gorman's violation of the
contract. He tried to force them back Into
the car and It Is claimed struck one of
thf party, Mandel, with a pair of brass or
Iron knuckles, knocking him down and
rendering him unconscious for twenty-four
hours. They further allege Gorman re
fuses to. Surrender them their baggage un
less upon the payment of 115 each, which
neither of them Is able to pay, being prac
tically destitute. From their consolidated
means they raised money enough to tele
graph New York to the United States dis
trict attorney there, who advises them he
will take up the case at that end of the
Una under the peonage laws and further
advised them to consult the United States
district attorney -in Omaha. District At
torney Ooss will take the matter up at
one In connection with the United States
authorities In New York and see what can
be don In the premises.
'In tli meantime the young men will en
deavor to seek employment In Omaha. They
have Influential friends, they claim, In New
Tork and Intend to puah the case to the
limit of the law.

LABOR DAY PARADE ROUTE

The committee on arrangements for the
Labor day parade met Tuesday evening
and completed the general plans for the
big labor demonstration Monday. Responses
were received from practically all the labor
organizations, Indicating that they will
participate in the parade.
The parade will form at Sixteenth street
and Capitol avenue early Monday morn
ing. The march will be through the busi
ness portion of the city, but routes have
not yet been definitely determined, but will
bo announced during the present, week.
After the parade a program of exercises
will be carried out at Syndicate park,
which will Include addresses by prominent
labor leaders and well known speakers,
followed by a series of athletic sports.

shal of the day. The formation of the
parade will be as follows:
