Forty acrea of grove and a nice breese from the river cloae by did much to offset the extreme heat of the day. Hundreds went tj the picnic ground In vehicles of every description and tha atreet railway company, which ran car direct to the place, conveyed the remainder. In the language of the spieler, 'there waa anmethlng doing all the time." Races and other sports galore, dancing (and many enjoyed this feature In spite of the tropical nature of the weather) and other amuse ments helped to keep the crowd entertained until dusk, when the trip homeward was begun. The concessions all did a big busi ness. Intoxicating liquor waa barred and there were no objectionable features per mitted on the grounds, with the result that the pleasure seekers did not have their enjoyment marred by objectionable charac ters. AH are thriving. RAIN BL0CKS MANEUVERS Expectation That Twi Armies Will Get to Work In Earnest Today. (From a Staff Correspondent.) DES MOINES, Aug. 8.-(8peclal.) Rain today Interfered with the army maneuvers for the forenoon. During the afternoon, beginning at I SO. the maneuvers were re sumed and soma good work was done. Colonel Bishop, some time tonight or to morrow morning early, will march his "Army of the Blues" down across the Cory don bridge and will take up a position near Campbell la preparation for tomorrow'a real maneuvers. Lincoln will msrch north and take up a position on the Corydon road. It will be along this road. In all probability, that tomorrow's battle will be fought. Colonel Bishop today Issued an order against the newspaper men publishing his plana, as the Brown army, either by read ing the newspaiers or else through a spy, has obtained Information of his Intentions.
